hi,

anyone know in JB where got a lot of IT shops?
was thinking of printing my DVD sticker labels from jpg files in JB.
also is it possible to scan hardcopies books here to PDF files? consisting of few hundred pages ... in JB?

thanks!

In Bukit Indah area, you can go to a lot of shops, there are some outside Tesco, in the row with coffeeshops, there are photocopying shops that would do it, expensive though if you are running into a few hundred pages. There are IT shops everywhere, you can go to the one in Giant or to the big one at Jusco(3rd floor) that is called Thundermatch. You can get higher end printers/multi function devices as well as access points/routers too. The service is also quite ok.

Bros, for taps etc never ever get from outside hardware store or from the major hypermarkets. Most of it are crap, correction, aside from some of the brass ones, all are crap.

The trick is not to say Steel but "bai gang" or White/Stainless Steel. Say you want that if you have no choice but to buy from a general hardware store. Else go to those who are really into it

Alright, just wanting to share something meaningful to all. At the end, a little note to bro Wuqi...

link here

Life is so much more meaningful when you have people to share it with. I've really benefitted from the conversations within this wonderful thread. I believe many have as well!

"Live life meaningfully!"

Thank you bro HH_Lover, people like you make this forum a more meaningful one, this page has always been a source of inspiration and hope to myself and i hope that it acts as a light, even just a dim one to folks lost or cast out into the storm. Whether you come hanging by a thread on a rotting log or in a large cruise ship, there is something for everyone here and every day i have had more folks/colleagues asking me about this place. I would just give vague replies except for one Italian gentleman. He, like my father in law, was one of those who inspired me. Despite making like 30k a month, he drives a motorcycle (albeit BMW) and will be coming into JB to visit me very soon. I must return the favour as he was the one who first started me thinking about Thailand and then asked me about Langkawi. That started me thinking and my father in law made the final push.

Paints .... can anyone recommend a pretty good brand of paint that is washable for indoors? so that minor stains can be removed?

I would go for this, paint seems to be cheaper here but need to shop around, perharps the hardware store near Nusa Idaman near the Hot Kitchen cafe(very nice chicken wings there btw)

Congestion along Tebrau Highway is probably due to the road works near the Pandan Interchange (Part of the EDL). It is affecting both directions and I am avoiding Tebrau for now, until the roads are completed, it has been a week already, should be back to normal soon, I hope.

Bros AP and Abugumgum are correct, been a bit bad recently. The worst i had experienced was driving one evening and stuck for 2 hours on the Pasir Gudang highway. Quite scary when we finally saw the reason why, a very large truck was found upside down with its container trailer upside down as well. Drive safe especially this month, saw a lot of exceptional death this month.

Can bro and sis here share how long your house's state consent takes to approve? Any different between buying from developer and sub-sale? My lawyer just submitted mine, wonder how long would it takes?

It normally takes about 1-2 months. Developer side is usually slightly faster. Sometimes even 3 months or more depending what type you are getting. Make sure if your unit is master title that it transfers cleanly to you as an individual title after all this is done.

Hi Checkers, most are open during that time, some may even be open more than usual. Jusco for sure will be open as with Tesco. Giant wise i think so too. Go to Mydin near the East Ledang/Ledang Heights area. Some of the stuff are really cheap, 3 pin multi plugs at 2.90, DVD/VCD cleaner kit at 2.60. Quite a good deal there.

For folks who want good hairstyling(higher class type), go to Tesco(Bukit Indah) where near the KFC, there is a very good salon there with hair treatment. Or Lings outside Sutera Mall (near the Pontian Wanton Noodles)

Thanks, wuqi  You are indeed a great help.

And Chiangmai/Chiangrai are close to our family's heart too.

I think it very much depends on your requirements such as access everywhere or just at home, daily or just weekends etc.

There will always be new promo or service from providers as they are very competitive for subscribers. One of the limitations for them is coverage, that's why the 7 day cooling off period for new subscribers to try out their speed and stability.

Just to share a funny incident we had at one of the Umobile sign up booths. Please note that this incident is by no means indicative of the service quality of Umobile, just funny.
After our usual grocery runs, we walked past this Umobile booth and the sales chap was trying to promote the newly launched 42mbps plan to shoppers. I stopped by to study the promo brochure. The chap saw that I might be willing to listen more, started to highlight how good the plan is. Then, my wife spotted that he is using P1 at his booth, so we joked with him on the irony . He laughed too, a bit embarrassed:o. That P1, I believe is his personal one, not belonging to Umobile. He just bring it along to work for his own Internet access.

bb giving me a headache bro....

thought of going for p1....

then there is a post on Umobile 42mbps....

just want a stable speed of download speeds upwards of 3mbps so that no problem for video streaming...

lots of congestion around Setia Tropika bro....during peak hours....

and if you guys have noticed lots of congestion along jalan tebrau as well

Yep. The pass 1 week has seen lotsa congestions from custom to tebrau. Me think due to EDL construction work. I hope its going to finish real soon. Heard from Setia sales that they are working day and night on it, rushing to finish asap...

That means i must buy my taps/mixers etc from spore and they must have the pub seal

am i correct?

Any shops to recommend in spore?

Those that you get from NTUC or Homefix is better in quality and value for money. If you want really good ones, you can go visit Hoo Kee at Katong shopping centre(if I didn't remember wrongly), the place where there are a lot of curtain shops? Its at the ground level. Use to be a Yokosho there.

If you want premium good ones, you can go to Econflo. Just Google them. I know them cause I used to work in a construction company.

P.S. : I don't have anything to gain from this.

Hmm so car, renovation and air con contractor all can provide service in both JB and Singapore. May be plumber, mover and any other house service contractor also can.

Yep. You are right. So long as on contract basis and there is a Singaporean contractor to take the blame if something goes wrong.

Recent heard that there are 2 types of 'bai gang'. One is the really one which is very expensive to get in JB. The other more common ones is chromed 'bai gang' on other materials which look exactly the same. Even for chrome ones, some are uses more 'bai gang' to chrome and some use less.

So do take note of this. As 一分钱,一分货。。。。。

For taps/mixers, you get what you pay. Personal experience - bought a brass coloured tap, tighten it and the next thing I knew, the threaded part broke inside the pipe and I have a gushing water fall....!!
