If he has the option to choose a GRC ward, he has a higher chance of being elected to parliament. However, if he contests a SMC seat, he is on his own and cannot relies on other except for solely on administrative or logistical support.

I think if Laulan Wong wanted his services, he would have put him into a safe GRC and let a newbie deal with the SMC. 
I won't be surprised if NCM is purged from the NTUC in the near future. You can't have fresh blood in the PAP without doing a shakeup in NTUC too.
