Chitchat My secret code to living a financial free life. What's yours?

However, my classmates who are no longer working by choice, warned that I may find retirement really boring and w/o purpose.
I agree with your classmates. I know people's mental wellness collapsed when they stopped working. Some lost their mind and becomes a parasite to people around them.

It is ok to work a bit when old. Even wiping tables, see young people at McDonalds can be therapeutic.

The opposite is true. Life is short thus we should not be wasting it to chase after luxuries. Maybe your work is stressless with good income? Like pap ministers they wouldn't want to leetire. Boredom is not in my equation. There are far too many things to do as a freed person. For now my priority is to take good care of my seniors and allocating other time to reap more from sg pool that requires brain cracking not simpler to a regular job. And spend the winnings on luxury once a while.
My job pays me well, so it has its own pressure and office politics. However, I still don't know how to fill the 8-9 hours in a day if I am not working.

I intend to buy or lease a proton car in Malaysia and to stay there for long time once I retire
several reputable condos in JB have structural issues, massive cracks on walls/pillars. When Najib and Badawi were around, their trade minister lowered the building codes requirements for material and structural safety.

Malaysia is great place to retire, but just avoid Johor, Melaka and Penang.

I salute your best friend. Not easy. My friend did the same, cared for his aged single aunt and Tan Chuan Jin fucked him when he sought social assistance.
Apparently, the old aunt told my friend that he is capable of earning his own money, so she decided to help her only granddaughter who lives from pay cheque to pay cheque with her Caucasian hubby in Europe. The irony is that his aunt hasn't seen her grandchild since she went overseas following her marriage. They haven't been in touch for decades.

I started to save a lot of money by taking public transportation to work.

I only drive my car during weekend and to jiuhu
I think I will enjoy entering malaysia via RTS, if I wanna hang around in JB

JB is like singaporean now. RM10 cannot get nice food. Should venture beyond JB to enjoy the real malaysia.

Which are the ones so that I can avoid?

Danga Bay ?

never mind, we don't judge this kind of things.

The day passes very fast even when we are not working. Becos we need not wakeup early in the morning.
Of course we cannot be lazy until sleep thru the day.
The greatest part is after we wake up every morning, no fix routine is required and can adjust accordingly to different event for the day.

My friend is understandably disappointed since his aunt is asset rich, but has modest life savings. He has been supporting that aunt who still stays in her semi-detached house with a maid that he hired and pays.

Try Ulu Tiram in rural Johore. Nice place.

in my extended family, the most filial child didn't inherit the most money.

Hope he don't blame his aunt.

He is still looking after his aunt, while the estranged granddaughter is waiting for her to die.

I have never seen anyone looking after aunt wholeheartedly.
His aunt must be extra care for him last time.
I only know 1 person who part time looking after his aunt, main objective is for her millions of inheritance.

Before leetiring, we must leemind ourselves not to be a parasite.
At first I also started to work pt to keep myself engage with the society.
But shortly I realised I still need to Leeport to someone even at a lower commitment scale, I then decided to stop.

During my pt job searches, I realised almost all pt jobs has a min commitment days per week and hours per day.
Rarely there are total flexi.
I only managed to find one in the warehouse industry.
Nowadays plenty of such job due to e commerce.

I started to earn good salaries in my late 20s to mid 30s.
Unfortunately I wasn't a wise men then and didn't have the habit of saving.
I spent all my good incomes with cars, travels, and treating people unnecessarily. The thought of retirement planning never crossed my mind.

The day when I was terminated from my good income job due to some greedy crimes committed, it was a wakeup call for me.
But I was able to get another job within 2 months, at a 40% cut. At that time the industry I worked in started the outsourcing trend, suppressing salaries.

From then onwards, I knew the importance of savings.
I started to be very careful of my expenditures and I saved about 80% of my salary every month.
I also realised I was not going to be a slave for later part of my life I.e 55 onwards. This thought made me the discipline to save more and more, sometimes even 90% of it. With aws and perf bonus 100%.of it.

I carried the same mindset for the next 20 years.
Last year when I looked at my bank account, I decided I was almost ready.
But before I threw the towel, I started to do my researches on all the means to exploit pap for any extra incomes being an unemployed jlb.
At the same time, I had already fully commissioned my soccer bettings secret code.
I'm not a greedy person, so I set a target that is achievable, and uat it for a few months.
I was then ready to take the plunge and I threw the towel to much astonishment from all my peers. They thought I striked Toto and was envying me even upto today.

I'm now a financially free person and the relieve of not requiring to Leeport to anyone is the best feeling I ever had, compared to the time of having high incomes driving cars.

Me, my helper and my parent.
For my helper and parent care expenses cost, we split among siblings.
On average my personal expenditure per mth is about $1500-$2000.
But this figure is fix expenditures, excluding unforseen ones.
I don't stay in condo and i go for the lowest tier 3 rm hdb to exploit more benefits from PAP.

Thanks for the compliment.
My aunt told me not many people are willing to quit their job and live with aged parent. But I just thought it is my duty to do this and I will regret later if I never do it. Also I quit becos I doesn't want to be controlled by people anymore :geek:
