Sam Leong's band of brothers - cyclists

I want fair and equal treatment for all road users under the law with all being accountable. Cyclists who cause accidents and harm to other road users should be accountable for their own actions...right now cyclists are not accountable and are treated much better than other road users. For your lasts bastion and all that crap...go move to Liberia...total freedom..U can get shot at....and U can shoot back too...free for all...I do not believe in lawlessness

Freedom of choice does not equal lawlessness.

You can have rules for everything or you can craft rules only for issues that matter. A good government gets the balance right.

People can be held responsible for their actions without having to be burdened by endless red tape. In NZ insurance for cars is optional and the system works fine. If I hit someone I'm responsible. Lack of insurance does not mean lack of accountability.

Fucking cyclists can't even ride properly on a straight, wide road.

Cyclists slam into car causing extensive damage!

Lack of insurance is basically irresponsibility...many drive without insurance because they know they get away with things...

The cyclist is absolutely right he is not the cause of any traffic jams and he does not put anyone else in danger.

Analysis of the data shows that the primary causes of last year's road fatalities and injuries are speeding, DUI and jaywalking. Cyclists are not even mentioned because they rarely cause issues on the road.

A cyclist who was previously caught on camera breaking multiple traffic rules in Tampines has responded to criticism with a defiant message.

In an earlier Stomp article, the cyclist was seen running red lights and weaving between vehicles, sparking concerns about road safety.

He was seen riding without a helmet as he ran not one, but two red lights and failed to keep to the left side of the road.

However, in a video posted on SGRV's Facebook page, he appears unapologetic, defending his actions in a series of statements.

"If you disrespect me, I'll disrespect you and I'll ask you to wake up," he declared.

He also justified his riding style, citing Singapore's many traffic lights and his speed.

"I cycle at 40kmh eh... you expect me to ride on the pavement and kill somebody ah?"

Despite acknowledging that Singapore is a country with 'rules and regulations', he insisted he was not the cause of traffic congestion and took issue with disapproving looks from others.

"Do not look at me and shake your head from 500m away, 'cos clearly you know I will scream at you," he added.

His comments have sparked further debate online, with some netizens criticising his reckless behaviour and calling for authorities to 'get him off the road'.

I agree, and they are licenced and insured, so much more accountable than unlicensed and uninsured cyclists
I’m sure that will bring great comfort when the next Porsche that crashes kills one of your loved ones.

Yes....at least more accountability than getting injured by irresponsible cyclists

This is what the PAP produces... people who are more concerned about adherence to red tape rather than the outcome.

The outcome of irresponsible cyclists are clearly plain to see in this thread without pap red tape

All I see is cyclists causing very little danger to others, producing no noise or pollution and generally just minding their own business.

On the other hand drivers are a different kettle of fish. The amount of carnage they cause to other innocent road users and pedestrians is astronomical!

Wow...so all cyclists are saints ...and since they are sop safe to cars, pedestrians and other road users, there should be no reason for them not to be licenced and insured

There is no need for licensing and insuring of cyclists just as there is no need to do so for pedestrians. The risk is low and the damage, if any, is minimal.

10 year old kids can ride around on bikes for goodness sake. I used to cycle 15km to school every morning and more than 20km back again with all the detours thrown in. Never had any issues. A few close calls with crazy drivers though but I never harmed a fly and neither did any of my other cycling mates at the time.
