Sgt Iskandar Rahmat was a good cop who got into financial difficulties but not through gambling. Was made bankrupt by OCBC bank over $62,000. To owe a bank such a large sum must be due to housing loan, car loan or renovation loan. The high cost of living (HDB, COE) drove Iskandar to become a bad cop.

There are hundreds of thousands of Sinkies in Iskandar's situation. Some of them are in debt due to gambling: SG pools outlets, casinos.

High cost of housing, high COE, gambling...whose fault? PAP.

If he overstretched his finances, it is his own fault for being so damned stupid.

wtf he was the one that plunged the knife and seriously wounded 2 men and drove a car over one of them and somehow the blame doesn't fall on him? If he was a chinese i doubt TS would be defending him like this.

When housing is so bloody expensive, what do you expect him to do? We are talking about the necessities in life, not luxury. And it is not like he has a choice to opt for a 2-bedroom flat.

He took out a renovation loan for goodness sake! When I was young and my parents had no money, we lived in a home with no electricity and no running water and no proper floor!

The last thing on my dad's mind was a renovation loan. He saved every penny he could in order to secure a better future.

Damned sinkies nowadays are simply spoilt brats indulging in luxuries that they can't afford.

Suspected it is a housing bank loan due to the separation with his ex-wife.... TS is right on this one....

That is exactly what my poor dad did. (by the way; I do not have a rich dad nor.)

Recently when I ask him why he do not take any loan; he just say he did not know he can do that. The only loan he know is Ah Long loan which interest rate are crazy.

Maybe stupidity save my family from disaster.

You are very right, we can not blame the government if we overstretches our finances, but we can blame them setting the tone. Then again, it is still up to the individual to maintain a discipline on what is needed & what is not.

The 'type of people' this policeman is from are well known to live like the Joneses even they could never afford it. I used to have about 8 office couriers under my charge of the same, 'type of people'. It is common that after they get their pay, they would occasionally borrow small amount of money from me $50 etc.. There was one, in his late 20's, used to tell me his family problems, father owe people money, AH LOONG people paste notice on the door & AH LONG scribble owe $ pay $, padlock the gate & so forth. Guess what, one day he turned up to work, in a brand new, was it as Honda or a Yamaha I forgot...the sporty type...I ask you bought this?..."on credit".. so go figure it out!!. These people have the tendency to over stretch their....

One 'type' of people, it is gambling, wine, woman & song & another..great pals with the bottle...to be fair on comparison.

So, it is still up to the individual, we cannot blame the government...

I deduce that this policeman must have bought a vehicle through these people & is unable to finance the loan from bank & may have seek their ASSISTANCE....:p

I come from rented room that have no toilets, where the baths & toilets are shared among many tenants, the family work hard, live frugal, save every penny to buy a HOUSE...even that, there was minimum renovation, for that HOUSE has many things one needed built in like flooring, good taps, bath tube & heater & sanitary appliances from SHANKS, the only renovation was some built in cabinets for the hall & under the stairs.. and nothing much.

It is true that people over spend these days..

We don't know why he's in debt and if it is money issue that resulted in the murders.

He could be in debt due to parents medical bills, uncontrolled spendings, losses due market speculation etc. nobody knows anything, so why waste time now instead of waiting for facts to be announced before allocating blame?

Thanks to Iskandar Rahmat , a pay rise might be in the work plus year end bumper bonus, you 'll never know how many more "armed" policeman might turn "bad".

The suspect rank is Senior Staff Sergeant.
To me that is consider quite high if he is not too highly educated. But why he cannot make ends meet?

I know a family that make $7,000 per month and have no saving. (father, mother and a 20 year old son now in NS)

What is wrong with all this people?

I told you guys. I said at the very beginning it was really the PAP's fault. Even before TS started this thread.

Boss Sam can say the obvious statement about the m&d mis-managing his own finances but deep down the common Sinkie knows it was due the way way the PAP runs their country.

Way back 10 years ago, when I knew the amount a typical Sinkie earning a typical wage does not equate his ability to even pay his essential bills monthly, I knew many Sinkie will fall into financial difficulties.

The inflationary cost increase way pass the any increase coming from their typical salaries.

Just look at those TOTO and 4D queues. The Sinkies are so desperate for money that they are willing to bang their luck on gambling to solve their finanacial woes.

Being balless for donkey years have actually made the Sinkie so useless, that they no longer equate that how their rulers are running their country, is actually driving them to their graves due to financial reasons.

If Singaporean convicts in Changi Prison were allowed to cast their ballot at general elections, which party do you think they would vote for?

Regardless of how a country is run, we all make personal choices in life which we have to take sole responsibility for.

Sure I agree with your statement.

But I am sure many Sinkie would know that Pinky Loong definitely would laughed at your morally correct statement as to whether it applies to him and his bunch of cronies.
