I am Pinky Lee, my family don't event own a car!

The main purpose of the COE is to restrict the car ownership in singapore so as to reduce congestion, pollution and what not. . That is why you have an auction system. Therefore, the purpose is defeated when a person owns 30 cars. He is not the only one wants to buy cars. But by hogging 30 COEs, he has prevented 29 other singaporeans from owning cars. And he is not even a sinkie. if you think this is fair, that is your problem.

[h=2]Definition of Family[/h] The dictionary defines family in several ways. One definition is "a fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children." While this definition is a good starting point, there are several modern family structures that are excluded by this definition, such as childless couples or other variations on the family unit. Another definition is "Two or more people who share goals and values, have long-term commitments to one another and reside usually in the same dwelling." This definition encompasses the vast majority of modern family units; for the purposes of this article, the second definition will be used.
[h=2]Who Makes a Family?[/h] The traditional family consists of a father, mother and children. This is the family shown on television as the standard family. However, the 21st century showcases a variety of family units, some very different from the standard of the 1950s. Today, children are also often raised in single parent homes, by grandparents or by homosexual parents. Some families opt to have no children, or cannot have children due to some medical or emotional barrier. The idea that parents and children make a family is a basic definition; however, in order to accurately acknowledge other family structures, a broader definition is necessary. In addition to a more universal family definition, there are also plenty of people who consider a group of friends to be family, and adults who consider pets as defining members of the family unit.

the fundamental issue is usage, not ownership. the many layers of tax on car cost has confused many. if you can find the parking space, go ahead and buy 100 cars. doesn't mean you can use it all the time right?

once we move to a GPS based road tax system, we can remove barriers to ownership (like COE) and move to a more equitable pay-per-use model. car prices could plunge if COE and ARF were removed. but we could end up paying $1/km driven. this is the right way to go as it will force drivers to plan their trips carefully and reduce unnecessary traffic on the road. if the government were enlightened enough, we could even remove fuel tax.

Please explain lah. I don't understand.

One car per family is more than enough. If someone wants more than he should pay a huge sum for the right to do so ...one million for the second car, 2 million for the third and add a million for each subsequent car. Then that policy will work.

i was referring to the post by Papsmearer. he says the purpose is defeated when one chap owns 30 cars. but the purpose is to reduce congestion as he himself stated. so the one chap is helping tremendously to reduce congestion.

how is the purpose defeated?!?!?!?!?!?!? you just shot yourself in the foot.
