I think Sam's general rules is not soliciting, gross pictures. Other then that, anything goes. Telling a story here should be ok. You'll be surprise how some of the PRC can be very friendly if you speak mandarin in a proper way. I've been mistaken for a PRC many times since I've acquired a bit of a northern accent in my speech.
