SIA senior exec steps down
By Hannah Koh

SINGAPORE Airlines' (SIA) senior executive vice-president for Marketing & Corporate Services will be stepping down next year.

Mr Bey Soo Khiang will leave SIA on Feb 28 after more than 10 years of service.

Following a 26-year career with the Singapore Armed Forces, Mr Bey joined SIA in 2000 as executive vice-president, Technical. He moved on to Operations and Planning areas in 2004 before assuming his current position earlier this year.

'He has made significant contributions towards the development of the company. All of us in SIA will miss him,' said SIA Chairman Stephen Lee.

Said Mr Bey: 'The time is right for me to move on. I will be leaving knowing that the Airline remains in good hands.'

Plans for new leadership of these divisions are still being finalised.

It may be that he's had enough of SIA & taking the oppurtunity to "really" retire.

Or maybe he's just a scape goat, a victim of political infighting?
Or being kicked up & not kicked out, You may see him running in the next election

Reading between the lines can be very difficult for lesser mortals

Strange resume to become EVP of Marketing. 26 Years at SAF - EVP technical - nothing marketing like in experience. OK he may be an aeronautical engineer at RSAF which makes him good a managing the technical staff but Marketing??

It is the correct way to train a person to gain allround experience,he was actually a pilot,

According to SIA-He holds a Masters Degree (First Class Honours) in Engineering from
Cambridge University and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University
http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_UK/docs/company_info/investor/annual/SIA_AR_0203.pdf

(I note the terribble mistake by SIA, Masters Degree (First Class Honours) in Engineering -an obvious mistake and should not happen )

It is obviously he has been earmarked to manage SIA,but things happen

No direct correlation. Scholars have fantastic brains. They see big pictures as well as microscopic dot. They can excel in many fields - not necessary in the field that they study in secondary school or university.

Many of them subsequently value-add their portfolio with higher degrees in management or administration. That's why a Mathematic degree holder can be a PM, an engineering or navy guy can become a DPM, a lawyer can become a MM, and a diplomat can become a President.

Shows what an ignorant person you are. BA and BSc in Oxbridge are automatically converted to MA and MSc after one year.

Heard that his thinks SIA was the air force and he is its general. When he barks others must run. If he did become the top honcho, many others will probably resign and join other airlines.

Was he a BG? BG Bey?

He will need to resign if he is taking up ministerial post.

He quit becuase he was passed over for a promotion. Worse still, his subordinate was given the promotion and now he has to report to him! Most people would quit given this circumstance.

No, he was LG. Not BG. But yes,an SAF scholar winner. He was in RSAF/SAF for 20 years. Of course, carryon with PAP policy, favourite pets are never retired, just recycled to GLCs to continuing earning fat pay checks at taxpayers expense.

Agree. He has to go. Respect him for that unlike others who will cling on die die. But, if he can't qualify to head SIA, how did he lead the SAF in the past? SAF is not a small outfit. Can only conclude that when it comes to the real world, it's $ & cents. SAF can wayang - it's ok.
