That was Neptune.
The famous one in JB was Mechinta.

The Neptune and Tropicana used same topless dancers..They were all AngMo..eastern European probably..but their backup dancers were local
Lians and Minahs.( not topless ).and they would shuttle btw shows in those blue comfort school buses..

Did you kick yourself when you failed to buy a Bukit Timah landed property for peanuts?

eg Namly Park was going for $35,000 when it was built....

In those days, you are considered well-to-do if you earned $100 a month.

Got great Fried Kway Teow at coffee shop next to Odeon .....

The famous beef noodle started in the area. In those days, we sent the secretaries down 30minutes earlier to go and place order. Then we all 'big time (actually quite junior lah) executives arrive later to eat. Secretaries love it because they got to go off earlier and got free koo-bak kway teow for the day. The same family now runs the stall in ION food court in the basement.

The famous beef noodles morphed from side road, to opposite Odeon. 30 mins waiting time SOP. Next got into Scott's food court (was it the 1st food court?).

Other thing on Odeon, was this unique car park 'shift' -previous slot's clearing up for the next.

Scotts was the first AIR COND food court. The beef noodle still tastes the same at the ION food court, by the same family. One of the daughters run the one at NEX food court.

The building in the foreground of the photo does not look like Selegie House which is further down the road towards the right side of the photo. The building is one of the SIT or HDB blocks on Selegie Road behind of which is Albert Street. Also, opposite to this building is Mackenzie Road where Rex Theatre is situated. The UOB Bank is on the ground floor of this building fronting Selegie Rd.

Selegie House is found at junction of Sophia Road x Selegie Rd but certainly it is not the building in this photo. Anyway, my 2 cents worth from my old man's family album.
The pic is that of Selegie House. What you meant is Selegie Complex, which used to house the Prince Room Restaurant and some bicycle shop on the ground floor. Selegie Complex is now Wilkie Edge.

Food court at the basement was Picnic.
Movenpick was there too....so was cost plus, mph and song ching (selling music cassettes).

Next to Tropicana on Claymore Hill? cannot be Shaw House, which was next to the Cinema, can it be the construction for Shaw Centre?

Someone mentioned was construction of annex to shaw center.
There was actually an old shaw house building which was behind the old cinema.

Next to the hdb block is the Selegie Primary School, the low building with the inverted v rooftop is the assembly hall where students use sing the national anthem, prior to class.
