Must be the 60s because I spot an original Mini.

That black car to the right of the photo is not an original Mini; it is the Morris Minor, made in UK. Mini did not exist in that era which became famous after the film "Italian Job" starring Steve McQueen was shown in 1970s.

I hv been wanting to ask if there were elevators then?

Yes, they have. Two of them in fact.
Big enough to accommodate 1 class of primary school children, teacher included.

The best part, if I recall correctly. They have the lift uncles, operating the lift. Which floor you tell them and they will press the button for the floor. They have to insert the key and switch it, up or down
Come to think of it, really brings back good memory of that area.
Selegie, Albert Street, Prinsep Raod/Street.

Once in a while will pass by there.
The old school infrastructure is still there, now it look so small.
Used to feel overwhelmed back then.

Or maybe we have all grown up.

Were there not strip shows around even as late as the 1990s in the old Clifford Pier Restaurant? There were certainly loads of topless / nude shows in JB as I recall back in the day.

TROPICANA was the first outlet to have topless shows. Dinner was expensive and couldn't afford it.
But 30 minutes before the topless dancers come on, they allowed cheapies like us to watch for $7-00 per person from the very top end of the hall.

And the Indian restaurant RANG MAHAL.
They also had the first restaurant specialising in snails, appropriately named E'CARGOTS.

Can any old birds here verify that there were shophouses on the spot where the flats of Toh Yi Drive are now standing?

I have very faint memories of that.
