Are deep feelings subconcious?

For many people having a broken heart is something that may not be recognized at first, as it takes time for an emotional or physical loss to be fully acknowledged. As Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson states:

Human beings are not always aware of what they are feeling. Like animals, they may not be able to put their feelings into words. This does not mean they have no feelings. Sigmund Freud once speculated that a man could be in love with a woman for six years and not know it until many years later. Such a man, with all the goodwill in the world, could not have verbalized what he did not know. He had the feelings, but he did not know about them. It may sound like a paradox — paradoxical because when we think of a feeling, we think of something that we are consciously aware of feeling.

As Freud put it in his 1915 article The Unconscious: "It is surely of the essence of an emotion that we should be aware of it.' Yet it is beyond question that we can 'have' feelings that we do not know about."

I would second the first point.

As for the second point, i feel that is unlikely.

But then it all depends on which woman Freud was referring to - his gf, wife or mother.

It's just a quote from somewhere.

I'm very aware of my feelings all the time, but it seems that girls are more in touch with their feelings compared to guys.

So I was wondering about the male point of things.

i'd like to offer this alternative, humans are animals, thus i'd look at things from a biological point of view, i.e. feelings are often convoluted by social norms, which often doesn't reconcile well with natural instincts, therefore the individual finds it confusing to put a point to it. love? it's more like a sexual desire for reproductive success.:biggrin::biggrin:

yea. there are many persons whom i have met before in my prior lives. when i see them, subconciousness triggers a latent instinct of familiarity and fondness. there are some whom my instincts would tell me to stay far away from. the latter batch of assholes mainly reside in sg.

Subconcious or un-conscious? If the latter, cannot express emotions never mind the touchy feeling bit.:p

60 years is like forever man! I think the six year mark is a good trigger point. After that it's like too long to wait for anyone. Maybe I'm just a kid. :p:p:p
