I can imagine the JB state government arguing with the Federal government everyday. Its all about face saving, i'm pretty sure they will scrap this biometric thumb printing before the year ends. Of course, it helps if media from both sides continue to publicise this.
An example is the 20l petrol rule which they eventually replaced with the far more logical "Malaysians only RON97" rule. In a way you can say they go by "trial and error"... but the good point is they are willing to change a system that does not work. In Singapore they do a very comprehensive paper to justify anything they want to implement... but once implemented i cannot recall they ever reversed any policies even if it is drastically wrong (such as the 2-child policy).

it is really very easy from 2nd link. Just follow the highway and look out for Senai airport exit that also has DESARU on it. Once you exit , there is very clear signage along with distance. However, if you are using GPS, after the initial distant, you will not find any road on GPS as it has not been updated on the map yet. I think it is not far after ulu tiram where the road vanish but not problem , just a straight road .

Yes, must be careful there as I also saw an accident while on the way back near the bridge. The roads are not really that smooth and I believe the lanes will converge to one closer to Desaru.

btw... saw my dad reading chinese newspaper earlier... it seems with immediate effect all foreigners entering MY will only have to do finger printing once, they stick a barcoded sticker on your passport... the next time you come in they just need to scan the barcode... anyone experienced this already?

Dosnt work lah, the bar code gone once you change a new PP , or very time consuming to locate it as PP got so many pages. Finger prrint data base should be index using our IC or PP no . Scaner should be able to read our IC or PP no without having to key it in manually.

TWO Singaporean women who drove into Johor Baru were detained by Malaysian customs, stripped, and made to squat and stand while pulling their ears.
They were detained for 24 hours for "illegal entry" as their passports were not stamped at the Malaysian customs, reported Shin Min Daily News.
The incident occurred last Thursday (June 9) when property agent Ms Lim, 29, went to Changi Airport to pick up a friend, insurance agent Ms Zhan, 39, who was returning from a holiday in Hong Kong.

They then decided to drive to Johor Baru for supper at around 1.30am.
Ms Lim told Shin Min Daily News that she drove into Lane 2 and realised that there was no customs officer on duty. She attempted to use the intercom service to ask if there was anyone, but according to her, it was too noisy and she was not able to make out if anyone had replied her.
After five minutes, she decided to use the Touch n Go system to enter into Malaysia. The Touch n Go system is a smart card used at Malaysian highway tolls and can be used to enter the country if travelling from Singapore.
The two noticed that there was no one attending to the fingerprinting scanning system and therefore, were not able to get their passports stamped and checked before entering Johor Baru.
"I immediately made a U-turn towards the Malaysian checkpoint to find an officer to stamp our passports and that was when we were accused of illegal entry.
"We were interrogated by customs officers around 3am and were detained for up to 15 hours.
"We were handcuffed and around 6pm the next day, we were taken to a detention centre in Pontian," said Ms Zhan.
Upon arriving at the detention centre, the two told Shin Min Daily News that they were ordered by a Malay correction officer to take off their clothes and said that this was "normal procedure".
Ms Zhan also said that Ms Lim was given a smelly and old T-shirt to wear while the other detainees wore their own clothes.
She told the Chinese evening daily that the two of them were made to squat and stand while pulling their ears.
They were allowed to wear their clothes only after they had finished ten squats.
Ms Zhan said that they were locked up in a cell that was about two-thirds the size of a football field. There were about 50 other detainees in the same cell and were mainly from Indonesia and the Philippines; the two women were the only ones from Singapore.
When Ms Zhan asked for a new sanitary pad from one of the detention officers, some of the detainees told her that she will have to use soap and water to wash her soiled pad before disposing it, or else she will be reprimanded by the officers.
She said the toilet was filthy and the stench filled the entire cell, and as the toilet did not have a door, a cloth was used instead, but only covered up to her eyes.
They were also told by their cellmates that they would be punished if they did not finish their food and will be made to stand for an hour if they spoke too loudly.
"There was no mattress or pillow in the cell, so we slept on the floor with bugs and cockroaches," said Ms Zhan.
The two were released the following Saturday at 6am with warning letters. They were not charged or penalised.
While they were getting their passports stamped on their way back to Singapore, they were told that they will not be able to enter Malaysia easily after this incident.
It was the first time the two had driven to Malaysia. They told Shin Min Daily News that although they were at fault, they did not understand why they were treated like prisoners.
They also said that they intend to seek a legal help and demand for compensation for their traumatic experience in Malaysia

The Plight of Orang Laut....near danga bay development. Orang Laut is the Abroginal people of johor. Visited the place myself it's near perling. Very sad to see a big constrast where one one side is the poor orang laut and the other side is the rich bangalows.

We are talking about what is the best they can do now... short of scrapping the entire system. I think the procedure should be able to minimise the queue to less than an hour after a few months, given that many visitors would be repeat visitors and not first timers. I am not an expert in barcoding but i believe it needs to follow a prescribed system of numbers so that every number is unique.

As much as i dislike the MY immigration officers, i always feel a little skeptical when i read news like this. Furthermore it is really lacking in common sense to get into a country without getting your passport stamped. But yes, it gets risky when you are at their mercy. I would never let my partner cross the border on her own.

Hi Ginfreely, no guarantee in this world. Just because one maid acted badly, we cannot tar everyone with the same brush. So because they may still steal even if we treat them well, we should treat them badly? Just treat them as you will a fellow human being and give respect where its due.
Bros, the story about the girls squatting, etc is really weird. This is as how many people (women) would go for supper in JB in that time of the night? Also, i had a couple of times in the past where either friends, family and once even my wife did not receive a stamp on the password and in the end, we got it resolved.
All 4 times without the use of money. One time, when they started the MACS thing, my mums passport had problems with her MACS sticker and they could not find when she entered. We wasted half an hour but were soon sent on our way.
This case is very extreme but in a way, although i feel sorry for her, she really breached the rules not once but multiple. She could have just waited, reversed out or got out of the car and notify another booth/sought help.

Can you imagine how many ex-ministers we need to keep paying?
I used to don't mind we need to pay them high salary but now I think they are not worth even much lower salary, let alone sky high salary. They only got bad ideas (to the people) like casino, mass import people to drive up GDP...nothing that is worth the salary paid...
