You haven't seen the latest report yet, Sentosa as the FAVORITE Tourist spot in Asia. I think if IR is up, it will be the WORLD's FAVORITE spot! LOL!

If places like Botanic Garden, Tiong Bahru and Bugis are to be selected as world heritage sites, then i think it will be easier for people all over the world to submit the sites that are "non-heritage".

PAP requests 154th to public such letter is to convince and prove to us that we indeed need FTs coz Sinkies are simply idiot.

I recall the stunning gowns and it was very much a fashion parade. Beat our cabaret queens and tai tais in style. When bugis had to go, thats when people became upset with the tourist board. Some of them went on to marry Ang Mos and settle abroad.

SIA complained about the ineptitude of the STPB then. A series of meeting between SIA and STPB was held and it became biiter as the latter became defensive. Finally Tony Tan got fed up and replaced the STPB chairman with SIA ex-MD Lim Chih Beng and SIA staff was brought in to fix it.

Bugis was world famous, you even have angmos who have heard of Bugis but don't know where Spore is

I remember going there & seeing the place filled with so many angmo tourists & their children Knew someone who was in the tourist trade & would tell me how popular the tiger shows were :p

The PAP had a tourist goldmine but the clueless PAP destroyed the place Now they are trying to create tourist attractions like F1, casinos, Sentosa, ....

Actually Tiong Bahru / River Valley has a long history of housing the ladies of the night and mistresses. They all know each other. Every self respecting business man to contractor would have a mistress staying there. The higher end ones will have theirs at Pacific Mansion which is close bye.

Because these ladies stay there, there is a unwritten rule not to walk the street there. When the notorious Butterfly Gang (the one and only ladies SS group that controlled the bar girls) retired, they opened a small coffeekiosk at Tiong Bahru Park which has since closed.

Times have changed but it is still noted for such things.

Thats why I mentioned that the Lady who wrote the letter does not know here history.

Still remember seeing a photo of the "ugliest girl" on Bugis street. They were selling the photos at the make shift cafe that sprung up. I hope she found her prince charming in angmo land

Was there a dispute between SIA & STPB? Can't believe that it was made public I wasn't in Spore so don't know what happened. When I returned the only thing left was a mall :(

Spore has a poor track record of many such fiascos. Everyone knows about Chinatown, old Public Library,..... :(

That is different.being a mistress area in olden days is decent enough as well acceoted..thy also raise family sometimes..BUT..IF NOW INFESTED BY HOOKERS, LIKE IN gl, lAVENDER, cHOO jIAT..i M SURE ,THAT WILL LEAD TO DRASTIC DROP IN THE SOCIAL AMBIENCE...........hence the property price.....like in GL.......

Yes, it was a street cabaret and nothing sleazy about it. The tourists would thrng the streets well before the event.
