Woman wins $410,000 but casino refuses payout

If she is basing her claim on flashing numbers and words, then it is probable it was a glitch and she'll lose. Nobody, at least so far, I have read no other witness coming forward, has said if the combination of fruits/bars/7s.. was such that the payout was valid. If it was just a random non-winning combination, how can she claim the prize? Any pics, anybody?

I think the casino is pretty dumb. Instead of looking like a piker, penny pincher,.... trying to deny someone of her winnings. They should take the oppurtunity to play this up. IT'S FREE PUBLICITY. Just imagine the positive Spin they would get from someone winning a $400,000+ jackpot

I guarantee they will get an increase in business from the NTUC aunties who gamble at NTUC gambling dens:smile:
Instead of queuing up for the 4D/TOTO, there will be many who will opt to go for the slot machine if the prize is $400,000:rolleyes:

I think i know the reason why. They have no shortage of new customers. This is sg. It's the place where the govt screws the locals in plain daylight and they'll still vote for them. Ditto for govt services and other agencies etc. Like transport fare for eg is hiked and services don't improve but ppl still take them and bear with them. The casino is no exception. So what if they don't pay? There'll still be a stream of suckers going there. Even better their chances of losing any lawsuit probably next to nill.

SINGAPORE: Hawker Choo Hong Eng said she gave her first statement to the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) on Tuesday, in her dispute with Marina Bay Sands (MBS) over her jackpot winnings.

58-year-old Madam Choo said she felt confident about her chances of winning the case, especially with the support of CCTV footage and at least four witnesses not related to her.

Madam Choo had won S$416,000 on a jackpot machine at MBS last month, but the casino said the machine had malfunctioned. It offered her a sports car worth S$258,962 and S$50,000 in cash instead. But Madam Choo refused the offer.

Her lawyer, Mr Choo Si Sen, said the casino must pay the full amount of S$416,000 within 15 days if the CRA's verdict is in her favour.

If either party is dissatisfied with the verdict, they can appeal to the Patron Dispute Committee.

Mdm Choo said: "The CRA officer asked me: 'Did you see the words CASH and CAR appear on the screen?' I said the only words were CASH BONUS. The word CAR didn't come up at all. Car is spelt C-A-R, and cash is C-A-S-H. The difference between four and three letters is obvious."

Hawker in dispute with MBS gets full jackpot winnings

SINGAPORE: A dispute over jackpot winnings between a hawker and the Marina Bay Sands casino has been settled.

58-year-old Choo Hong Eng told Channel NewsAsia the casino has agreed to pay the entire sum of S$416,000. The casino earlier said that the machine had suffered a glitch.

In the weeks since her case came to light, Madam Choo has become a minor celebrity.

She said: "When they (members of the public) see me, they'll ask, is there a resolution? I tell them, not to worry, it'll come eventually. They ask, 'will you get the money'? I say, of course!"

Madam Choo's lucky strike took place at Marina Bay Sands on October 18.

But the casino said the machine was faulty, and offered in exchange, S$50,000 in cash and a sports car worth S$258,962 which she could sell back to the casino for cash.

Madam Choo refused the offer, and hired a lawyer to fight her case.

With CCTV footage and eye-witnesses to back her claim, she gave her statement at the Casino Regulatory Authority (CRA) on November 1.

Three days later, on November 4, the casino agreed to pay.

Madam Choo, who was in Taiwan at the time, was informed by her lawyer.

She signed the acceptance letter on returning to Singapore on Wednesday, and expects to get the cheque three days after the casino receives her letter.

She said she is happy the case is settled, and will donate nearly half of her winnings to charity.

"It's a matter of principle. I got the money by accident, so I should give back to society, help the needy with their medical expenses, and help the elderly," said Madam Choo.

In a statement, Marina Bay Sands said it "regrets any confusion", and has decided to pay the amount displayed on the slot machine, after carefully reviewing the matter.

PAP and MBS are gangsters.

PAP won the election (back) from Oppo Ling How Dong in Hillview Ave Est and dishonour their promise to upgrade the estate but insteade bull dozed the whole estate and dispersed the voters. Whatever PAP do and shows are all fakes (fake GDP growth), fake high minister pays, and now fake Kackpot win in MBS anfd refuse to honour and pay up.

The land was sold to private developers to reap profit at the expense of the voters. If the land was needed to benefits the people than it justify the means but in this case it does not justfy the need to demolish the whole estate. PAP must be demolish come next GE 2016.

MBS should pay the prize as show on display. KNN less than half million also cannot afford to pay. Please make big headline .

The hawker involved in a dispute with the Marina Bay Sands over her casino winnings has gotten the cheque for the money.

On Friday, the casino delivered the cheque for $416,742.11 to Ms Choo Hong Eng's lawyer at Straits Law corporation.

Ms Choo had struck the amount playing jackpot on Oct 18, but was told by a casino manager that the machine had a glitch. She was offered $50,000 and a car worth $258,962 instead.
