Will Loh Kean Yew help SG secure a second Gold medal for the Republic this time?

He should be glad if he can make it to the quarter-finals.

you goodminton sexpert?
I can tell you why he is so into badminton. Very simple because he is a Malaysian. Badminton is very popular in jb, with many badminton halls around and you see many kids like to play on the road outside their house. Just as popular as them playing firecrackers. Obviously badminton is a big thing in msia.

He lacks big match temperament and almost zero court craft.

His biggest flaw s 好大喜功 … he imagines himself to be some badminton idol, and carries a 偶像包袱。
You jealous loser sure attack him the same way as you attacked me. Why? Because he is hokkien just like Lee Chong Wei. You know he is Penang hokkien with rare surname 骆 and not the common hakka surname Loh.

Hope all Sinkies come back with NOTHING.
I watched the game. There were two persons with him, probably coach and assistant.

Three of them conversed in Malaysian Chinese language/accent throughout the break-time. Like people say, 联邦人 讲 联邦话 People who grew up in Singapore are not like that.

He played very very well and motivated. World Class but I cannot relate to him.

In the ladies single match, Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon and Taiwan's Tai Tzu-ying hugged cried like crazy after the game.
https://www.nst.com.my/sports/badminton/2024/08/1084727/taiwans-tzu-ying-exits-paris-tearful-goodbye

Tai Tzu-ying was higher ranked, World No.1 for a few years, slightly injured during the game.
Ratchanok Intanon was junior ch, played very well and sharp during the game, Asia Games and World Junior Champion a decade ago.

Both in early 30s, both knew each other for so many years, probably their last olympics game.
Ladies with beautiful hearts - most touching badminton match i ever watched.

Yeo Jia Min is out liao in a close thrilling 3-setter to JapAV look-alike Chiobu Aya Ohori:

Will we see a headline " Loh Kean Yew shocks world no. 2 Viktor Axelson in a thrilling quarter-final "

But even if he beats VA, it will be damn tough for him to win any medal as Shi Yu Qi is currently World no. 1 in top form and so is Kunlavut Vitidsarn who has been slaying top players recently like a Robocop.

He needs to beat VA to enter semi-finals again to win against a Taipei or India opponents.

Two more victories will assure a silver medal

If he meet TW Chou Tien-chen or India opponents like Lakshya Sen (who just beat Prannoy) then got chance as he has beaten both before.

There is another jiuhu that he may meet along the way. But my money is on him falling to the Dane.

Li Shifeng is still very raw.

His defense was poor last night and if your defense is poor you will not be able to dictate the pace of the game.

You will notice that in all his matches, Loh picked up the shuttle 6 inches lower than most players. This gives the opponent 1/10th second more to react, which almost all tall players will capitalize. Li is a tall player but he did not capitalize on that.

Must pray hard for VA to tio gongtao or succumb to injury and retire, LOL. VA recently pull out of semi from S'pore Open in June due to ankle injury.
Let's hope LKY make run run like monkey to tio injured again, LOL.

https://olympics.com/en/news/bwf-singapore-open-2024-viktor-axelsen-pulls-out-semis-injury

Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen withdrew from the BWF Singapore Open 2024 badminton tournament ahead of his scheduled semi-final on Saturday (1 June) citing injury.

The Dane, who beat Lakshya Sen, Lin Chun-Yi and Leong Jun Hao to reach the last four, said he picked up an ankle injury in his last-16 win over Lin.

"During my 2nd round I made a small rollover on my right ankle. Initially I felt fine and yesterday [against Leong] it was nothing but a bit of soreness," he wrote on Instagram.

"However this morning I have woken up with increasing pain and after consulting with the medical team I have been advised to rest my ankle and will therefore not be able to step on court today.

"It's obviously very disappointing as I would love to continue my run here." Axelsen added that he would attempt to return at next week's Indonesia Open if his injury allows.

Match temperament is the most difficult to improve. It's the invisible ceiling of badminton. Lin Dan hit the ceiling and decided to engage The Thing (Tang Xianhu) to help him break the psychological barrier.

Now look at YJM.

At 20-19 match point when she could have wrapped up the match, she served the shuttle 2 feet above the net for the Japanese to kill.

I suspect @sbfuncle has something to do with it. She is either mentally unstable or she collaborated with @sbfuncle .
