ORLANDO (FLORIDA): Elin Nordegren, the wife of Tiger Woods, has urged her sex scandal-embroiled husband to seek treatment for sex addiction.
As porn actress Holly Sampson and an unidentified former cocktail waitress became the seventh and eighth women to be linked to the embattled golfer on Monday, British tabloid Daily Express reported that Nordegren, 29, wants Woods to find a cure for his obvious propensity for illicit sexual trysts.
'She wants to forgive Tiger but she has told him he needs help,' the newspaper quoted an unnamed source as saying. 'There are so many women that he is obviously addicted to sex. He has got to get help if the marriage is to continue. Like any wife, Elin is feeling betrayed.'
Sex addiction expert Sharon O'Hara of the US Sexual Recovery Institute and president of the National Council on Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity, California Chapter, agrees with that call.
O'Hara, who is quick to point out she does not know Woods, said: 'With athletes like Tiger, there's often an addiction to the thrill and need of intensity, because in sports, it's that intensity that drives athletes.
'To me, as somebody who treats sex addicts, it's not surprising that the temptation of outside sexual relationships can be very strong. There's a lot of temptation thrown at you if you're at the top of your game. And, if you're good looking, you have power.'
