Bad neighbours and other reasons .

Singaporeans play musical chairs to profit over short-term .

More than you can make at shares on the average family's capability .

I dont think we can profit from our HDB sale, We will have to payback 20% of profit to HDB if we consider buying a second flat from HDB.
We dont make that much, they dont have to do anything, but want to collect capital gain. on so call subsidies housing.
When we buy our next flat we can get loan from them but have to paid market rate according to the bank, no logic here.
why dont they abolish the capital gain tax or what they call it.why must we share our profit with them,it our hard earn money.
up to today I still dont understand what is the meaning of calling ourself Singaporean.
Now I am happy living & working in Viet nam.
although it a emerging market there is opportunity out here, if not afraid of hardwork and hardship.
wish someone can update me, have they abolish the capital gain tax or reduce it
Thank

Those who profit or think they profited . Usually are down graders in a short span .

Just as many are leaving Singapore. Just as many coming in to fill the void .

Those that come in are getting the better end of the carrot .

A astute observation. You find that very common in minority ethnic group. Divorces are common so flat has to be sold as family divide. Then is a spiral to ground to fourth floor flasts where prices are cheapest. Some have no electricity for non payment. This group will succumb to the lure of high resale prices to pay off their debts. Then its next to playing hide and seek camping at the beaches.

Re: LHL message, we help those who help themself

HDB home is a sacred Cow, it for your old age, dont sell to make money.
If you need to sell ,by all mean just paid resale levy to HDB .4 room 22.5%
5rm 25% (based on resale price or 90% market Valuation)
HDB will be glad to take your capital gain .
whatever way you see it, we buy flat they make money, we sell also they want a portion of our share. pau chek (guarantee eat)
What a world class grave men.

1. That's why "Community Spirit" is almost impossible to achieve.
2. Not true. People in other countries move from city to city (or town/village) but it's because of work, not property speculation.
3. Private property too. En-bloc has become a household word.
4. Yes. Very big peesai.

To citizens (or patriots, if you prefer) - gleaming glass and steel skyscrapers do not make a society. What binds y'all? So far, it's only been NS and hawker food.

In between the tall buidlings and MRT stations at the street level, is there a common issue that every one can share, understand and mostly empathize mutually?

Cheers!

<!-- story content : start -->
FAMILY ties among Singapore residents have become stronger, with more married couples choosing to live near or with their parents.

The percentage of younger married couples who live with or in close proximity to their parents rose from 29.3 per cent in 1998 to 35.5 per cent in 2008, according to a Housing Board sample household survey released on Monday.

Another indicator of strong family ties is the frequency of visits between children and their parents, which has remained consistently high through the years. Ninety per cent of married residents visit their parents at least once a month while 20 per cent visit daily.

During these visits, the most common activities they engage in include having meals, exchanging suggestions and advice about personal problems, and going on outings.

Family support is also strong among residents, with support and care mainly coming from their spouses and children.

More than nine in 10 married residents feel that family life is important and are satisfied with it, with happiness in family life
coming mainly from good parent-child relationships, family members being in good health, and love and affection between spouses.

And 91.2 per cent of residents said they have family members to care for them when they are ill.

There are 3 main reasons:

1. To get cash from their sales proceeds and realize capital gains, to pay off debts or to increase their cash balances, depending on their financial situation.

2. To upgrade or to show off because they want to have "face". To show relatives and friends that they are moving up in the world.

3. To downgrade because they have financial difficulties.

Items 2 and 3 are due to the influence of the superstar leaders' values and policies.
