Why Singapore has the cleanest government money can buy.

I have to disagree on the part about attracting the best and brightest. I have worked with a few MPs and they sucks at their job. They are nowhere near being "bright"...in fact, sometimes looking at their action/reaction, I wonder if they have mental problem.

attracting the best and brightest to public service and reducing the temptation to engage in graft.

high pay may attract some of the best and brightest, but it has sadly also attracted a lot of the greedy and cluless about being a public representative. most mps seems to be there for show only, but hey the money is not bad right. they havent showed much interest in voicing the concerns of their constituents in parliament. most seems to just sit in parliament quietly waiting for it to be over.

Disagreed.
What we see in reality... Opportunists joining ladders because of all these carrots.
Real talent, smart and capable persons will shun it because it tarnishes their good names.

I was amused by the authors conclusion:

"There’s an old saying in Asia that the real money is in government. Not the paychecks, but the kickbacks. Isn’t it possible that a bit more capitalism at the highest levels of public service will make capitalism itself more efficient and equitable? We think Singapore proves it can. "

If you look up the definition of Capitalism you will find this:

https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=...:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=fflb
Capitalism is an economic system based on the private ownership of capital goods and the means of production, with the creation of goods and services for ..

Many have described Spore as Lee & Sons Inc. since the Lee family controls everything in Spore. Such a total control can be seen in places like North Korea. Are the authors supporting such a system:D

Singapore government officials are paid well & the highest in the world in order to secure integrity from them! Results not assured, in fact all of them from top to the very bottom are mere space fillers! But if integrity can be bought then are they considered incorruptible?

It is their own greed, greed and greed.
How much is enough!

Non-greedy smart/ talent people will never join those ranks.
