The Command house was renovated extensively for OTC but it was shelved. In fact OTC originally accepted and helped in the renovations with his wife. The official residence of the President is the Istana. Only 3 presidents made their permanent residence, Ishak, Nair and OTC. That is not accurate either. OTC lived in Command House from day one of his Presidency. Only Encik Yusof ever lived in the Istana.

Yusok Ishak and his wife was so bored that he obtained permission for cabinet Othman Wok and his wife to take up a nearby bunglaow.

You need to improve your reading. There never was no state funeral and no one said there was. The whole of Singapore were aware of the long line along Dalvey Road many of them were students from SAP schools including those from his alma mater.

Agree. Any President who has half brain will not live there as it is basically the domain of the fucking old man and his family. He has not given his pad and his office since the day that he went in.

City Hall unfortunately does not have a bed or a 9 hole golf course and he does play during office hours.

1) The sons turned down the offer of a state funeral which the cabinet offered.

2) For state funerals, it would put undesirable constraint on a country to have formula that states that certain state appointments automatically receives a state funeral. Every case should be considered on its merits. Typically some position holders may not have done well and have committed indiscretions whilst in office. Because it is the highest state in the office, these are never publicised.

I have no love for the PAP. So far they have made the right decisions for state funerals except in the case of OTC who I don't regard as anyone exceptional. He was with the PAP all the way until he took the presidency. The request to value the assets was not the source or roots of the conflict with old man. I am sure you know that at least. Only the gullible and ignorant would think so. It was over his treatment whilst in the Istana and he was asked to move to Command house. The whole thing started over his sons abusing the Istana priviliges expecially one son and the fight over access to the 9 holes.

As an insurance man, you might not have a clue but ask the accountants in the big firms. He was asking to value all state assets including drains. If you read the role of the elected president, it to ensure that funds locked away has to receive his assent. Valuation of state land, buildings, black and white bungalows, drains etc is pretty much meaningless to a sovereign country but it would be important to an individual or a firm. He must have known that most Singaporeans were clueless.

The hardest thing to value is ignorance and the other is engaging in a debate.

I think you are missing the point here. I have no love for all these former Con You buddy in arms who fell out of favour, but when the President asks you for an accounting, you bloody well carry it out. Its called chain of command. You don't stall and ignore him. If it takes 56 men years, than u goddamn well hire 112 men and come out with the accounting in 6 months. If Con You ask them for an accounting, do you think they will dare to tell Con You it takes 56 men years? U see the difference? OTC on his part should have played hard ball. Stop signing the new laws and the budget. U will see how fast Con You want to accomodate him or whack him. Please read again. Its the wrong accounting. Its a tantrum designed for the ignorant and you obviously fell for it. If he held assent, then we are talking about having balls and he did not have the opportunity and he knew it would not happen in his lifetime. What he did not expect was the point by point rebuttal in the press and thus felt embarrassed and remained quiet thereafter. The professionals knew it was a tantrum and the accounting forms knew it was dummy spit.

Here is an analogy - you want to buy an apartment or a house and but you will only commit if they value all the houses individually in the neighbourhood so that you get context. U misunderstand me. I don't admire this guy or even think he is some kind of hero. I don't care whether he throws a tantrum and demands the detailed accounting or he asked for it in a cold logical way. He is the president. If he ask for it, he should get it, no matter how unreasonable it is. Govt. does not work when someone in charge is repeated denied information that he is supposed to get. Do you think that any of Con You's requests, regardless of how absurd or unrealistic they are, would be treated the same way?
