I am sure many have considered but the barriers are far greater, especially for those who are emigrating with family, need to find a job there and have no links whatsoever to Japan (by links, I don't mean eating sushi or touring Japan or reading manga).
Sounds like a good idea. Why dont you share more info?
I remember on the old forum someone claimed Japan was actually cheaper to live in that Australia, which is a very bad country.
yes japan is indeed cheaper to live then singapore . cars is cheap , no road tax . you also can find 50% discounts on all the fishes , meat and vegetable in the supermarket after 6.30pm . you dont have to pay school fee for kids up to 12years old . medical , dental fee are almost free in this country .
you could come here and work as a english teacher![]()
bro , i used to think like you before i came here . things here are not as alien as you expected . i dont even speak a single words of japanese when i first landed here ( although my wife is a japanese ) . of course life is hard in the first few months ..but slowly you will get used to it .

I guess you went over together with your wife which makes things a lot easier. Can you imagine the brothers here asking their spouses and kids (might be easier for kids) to start learning Japanese? If their spouses are Singaporean women holding down good jobs, you can imagine the ruckus they would raise.
My point is that it is usually the men who want to venture out into the unknown or unfamiliar. This situation is made worse by the fact that the women have a relatively good life in Singapore as compared to other Asian countries.
Another issue is also that the Japanese invaded Singapore not very long ago. The older generation who lived through that period may not look upon the move very favourably.
Bro, what kind of business opportunities do you think might be suitable for Singaporeans.
You think the Japs will accept Singlish teachers? Lol! There are already plenty of people esp whites wanting to teach English not only in Japan but also in China, Taiwan, Korea etc. Sinkies stand no chance against whites, whom the countries aforementioned prefer (as native speaking teachers!). Moreover, the job is low paying, too low for Sinkies. The whites are not so moneyminded, 'cos they actually go for the socialising and meeting the locals more.
bro , nothing is easy when you first landed in a new country . its the quality of living here that make me pack my bag and leave for the big red dot . im sure if your partner wants a better place to raise kids then she should look beyond then that .
frankly speaking , japanese ppl love singaporean . they just hated PRC and korean . i dont have a problem with the local here . you just have to blend into their culture . remember its their country ,just dont behave like those FT living in singapore . and im sure you will enjoy your stay in japan .
Can you pls shed some light on the immigration process for Singaporeans wishing to migrate there? Is it restrictive? Do you, in your opinion, find that being Asian (Chinese/Malay/ etc) makes integration into society there easier?
How do you find the Japanese treat foreigners in their country ?
Thank you for your insight (s)
i think opening singapore food business is great
Yes. The Japanese love Singaporean dishes.
I taught a Japanese lady how to cook authentic Singapore Style Hainanese chicken rice and now her shop is always packed.
The best seller there is the chicken rice dish.
Other favourite dishes among her customers is the Nonya Mee Siam and black sauce Char Kway Teow.
A sinkie teaching ENGLISH?????You have to be kidding me!
Well, an Aussie can teach English in Japan, why not Singaporeans.![]()
