When I club, ktv, lounge, pub..Its always Chivas for me and my friends except whenever i go out with this one group of Ah beng Friends then we get Martell.
Talking about fakes...Malaysia was rampant back then not sure about now.
The early ones were mixed with honey and cheaper brandies (no health hazard) but later years fakes subsituted with cheaper industrial compound in them...lucky you get bad hangover or sore throat...unlucky go hospital.
They will bring in the fakes when customers are high so less likely to taste the difference.

No ka chuak taste?
No leh but Got once we went to a Ktv at Jln Sultan(Wont mention the place) and we went thru 3 bottles of chivas ($100 p/btl) between the 3 of us. When we were having our supper we realized that non of us were super tipsy, The 3 of us were very steady despite drinking alot. My friend called his "Friend/Hostess" who was working there and she told him that she suspected the owner might be buying Fake Chivas or Diluted Chivas. My friend was very angry so he Paotoh police and Chivas distributor. His reason was, You play dirty..I play dirty back. Place got raid and I think the owner got fined heavily.

Also anyone knows how come whiskey in Thailand is even cheaper than duty free prices?..many people say those sold are fakes but my personal taste test proves otherwise.
Still the same in M'sia. Same MO in S'pore - bring out the fake when customers are too high to taste the difference.
i recaLLed going to this Ktv joint at the converted ex-SANA House along Lavender Street once, and the fake MarteLLs that they dished out after our 3rd round of ordering was of such poor quaLity, that we became sober immediateLy upon consumption ! !
Last i knew, that joint was shut just Less than 1 year in business.

BeLieve that fakes' are stiLL rampant, but so reaL that to the average drinker; no one knows..
The reverse effect can also take place. My friends went China. They can consume 2-3 bottles quite easily with 3-4 hostesses around. But on one occasion, after 1 bottle, the 'high' came and it was a different type of 'high' one gets from drinking too much. Lots of bouncers at the Chinese KTV. Better not to confront them. Just pay and leave.
Alcohol flush reaction is best known as a condition that is experienced by people of Asian descent. According to the analysis by HapMap project, the defective allele of ALDH2 is rare among Europeans and Africans, and it is very rare among Mexican-Americans. 30% to 50% of people of Chinese and Japanese ancestry have at least one defective allele.[5] One of the defective forms of ALDH2, which accounts for most incidents of alcohol flush reaction worldwide, is native to East Asia and most common in southeastern China. It most likely originated among Han Chinese in central China,[6] and it appears to have been positively selected in the past. The reasons for this positive selection aren't known, but it's been hypothesized that elevated concentrations of acetaldehyde may have conferred protection against certain parasitic infections, such as Entamoeba histolytica.[7]
