Some 20-25 years ago, Hennessy was a key player in the night scene. These days, people drinking in the KTVs, HFJs and discos will give you a second look if you have a Hennessy bottle in front of you. Some friends I met told me Hennessy doesn't taste that great compared to Martell. But these were the same people drinking Hennessy 20 years ago. Could this be the result of Martell's aggressive A&P?

Hennessy appears to be sitting back and doing nothing to counter the challenge. I was told they aren't keen on the S'pore market. Too small according to them. In Europe, I was told Hennessy sells better than Martell. Any bros in this industry can assist in enlightening me? Thank you.

Open a bottle of this at nightspots, and everyone will want to be your friend:

Reason ?..there are more fakes' Hennessy's than MarteLL's in the market.Even our good karanguni men knows that.
An empty bottLe of MarteLL seLLs higher than a bottLe than a Hennessy.

Not really bro. Karang guni chaps collect empty Cordon Bleu bottles and casing. Martell empty bottles not a desired item.

Same same with all brands....everyone got their moment of glory.
Not only choice of brandy brands....even taste for types of liquor also evolved.
Back then brandy was king...seldom people drink wine and whiskey.

Hennessy tried to make a comeback some years back with Hennessy white.
Anyone remembers brands like remy martin, otard, camus, courvoiser etc etc.

Among the 4, Courvoiser appears to be faring reasonably well. That Planet something Thai disco at Liang Court is heavily backing this drink. I tried to order Martell but was coerced to order this drink. Promoter quite chio. But drink like ka chuak smell. With Thai SYTs around touch-here-touch-there, drink tastes machiam Cordon Bleu!

6 years ago I sold all my duty free Hennessies for between 250 -300 to a karang guni man who saw my display.
They were all at least 15 years, unopened and in original boxes but "lau hong" already. Martell was worth 30 to 50 only.
Cannot open them because the cork will crumble.
I did know why they were of value back then.

It makes no difference to me with VSOP. With XO, my personal taste is for Hennessy. However, I like Martell Cordon Bleu the best. It's cheaper than XO and I feel it also better for my taste.

You are more likely to get a hangover the next morning drinking Hennessy than Martell - my personal and friends experience.

Martell taste better but if you mix with water, all taste the same.

Cordon Bleu still the best.

A sober word of advice to aLL brandy-dinking bros here, NEVER drink them with Hot water doused onto your brandy..what's Left is just sugars & water after the evaporation process. My best drinking buddy died because of
this rituaL habit.Reason ?..he became a diabetic of advanced stage unknowingLy.

Knn, how can i not appear with such thread title? Both henessy and martell share half the market each during 90s. If go KTV or JB, it's either martell or henessy. Not sure what is more popular now? Have switch to whisky since i moved to LOS.

Yeah, heard something but heard not too mix green tea with brandy. A mamasan told me cos' quite popular to mix green tea in the early 2000s.

There was this guy whose warehouse was raided for having a lorryload of Hennessy fakes. Very rich guy, drove around in a Rolls Royce and known to be a courteous guy. The complaint was lodged by the local sole distributor In Singapore. Samples were sent to HSA for foreign testing with control samples provided by sole distributor.

At his trial he brought a French man who was with Hennessy. The expert testified to a shocked court that the seized Hennessy was not only geniune but was the highest quality and that is the reason why it was darker and taste different. He said that this particular batch was destined for Hungary. He also said said that the inferior quality was shipped to the Far East. The judge released him and asked for the seized goods to be given back.

By the time of the trial, the story of the fake Hennessy was so bad that in a bizarre way destroyed the business of even the sole distributor. This happened in the 1980s.

Any bros can remember somewhere in the 90s, Henessy had this commercial in the 90s of a shootout in a Shanghai bar, the only surviving bottles were the Henessy cause the gunman wanted it?

Anyway i digress, of the three major brands (Remy Martell don't even count) Courvisier, Henessy and Martell i simply found Martell to be the smoothest VSOP among them three. Henessy has a strong after taste and Courvisier does taste like ka chuak mixed with water, but no problem. Ah bengs and bartenders found out the best way to kill kacua taste is using coke. Then some bright spark added green tea and now Henessy is once again drinkable if you mix with green tea!

The Thais love Johnny Walker, why bro? Not a fan of whiskey unless its single malt

Talking about fakes...Malaysia was rampant back then not sure about now.
The early ones were mixed with honey and cheaper brandies (no health hazard) but later years fakes subsituted with cheaper industrial compound in them...lucky you get bad hangover or sore throat...unlucky go hospital.
They will bring in the fakes when customers are high so less likely to taste the difference.

Also anyone knows how come whiskey in Thailand is even cheaper than duty free prices?..many people say those sold are fakes but my personal taste test proves otherwise.
