Funny, Singaporeans dunno how to communicate and use "pidgin" yet always win top world prize for this English and that Engish. Why the paradox?

This hardly alters the fact that sinkies can't speak English to save their lives and most blacks have a much better chance of becoming drug dealers than they have of earning a doctorate in Physics.

Seriously, i am no English professor but i find the English proficiency of my colleagues and subordinates atrocious!

When they submit a report, i have to edit and correct so many things - grammar, past / present tenses and vocabulary!

Example: Long is the waiting time (what the fuck?!)

The English Language is fascinating and many words were derived from other languages. There is a fair proportion of Singaporeans who speak and write well, but sadly, there are many who prefer to indulge in propagating Singlish pidgin. If as nation, we want a reasonable standard of English speakers, then we should opt not to encourage others to engage others in Singlish. Given that we have many different races and many went to vernacular schools, plus the fact that many had parents who never went to school and speak only dialects, why many Singaporeans speak Singlish is not surprising. Those who are weak in English should make an effort and not be upset if their English were to be corrected as I too sometimes make grammatical errors. No one is perfect, but at least we try our best.

if not wrong "advice", though we are taught to be a noun, is also a verb in american english, likewise "defense", "license", etc...
so we must really specify british english or american english or some other variations, eg singlish.
sometimes it's difficult to ascertain which form of english is more accurate or proper.

that's changing in indian universities and tertiary institutions. while it is true that primary and secondary schools in india teach british-indian english, higher institutions, private training centers and corporations, especially those in the it sector, adopt american english as the desired model. in 10 years, this mass adoption at the work level will permeate down to the gov level and public school level. british english in india will cease to exist except for holdouts among remnant colonial nostalgists (old farts), just like in sinkieland.

Valid analysis. It's hard to get pass general computer terms where Colour is always spelt as Color, Favourites is alway spelt as Favorites etc. That's just the spelling and written part. In fact, there're also arguments whether it should be Spelt or Spelled, Learnt or Learned etc.

Even for Chinese characters, although it's supposedly simplified in PRC, traditional in ROC and somewhere in between in Japan, officially in printed fonts, many Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese are using them interchangeably according to their preferences in handwriting.

Like I've said, language is evolutionary. Some versions will prevail at some times. What's correct today may not be correct tomorrow.
