One million dollars were raised on Saturday for NTUC FairPrice's food voucher scheme, at the organisation's first walking event. The money will help needy families purchase daily essentials through FairPrice vouchers.

Held on Saturday at the Marina Barrage to promote a healthy lifestyle and family bonding among Singaporeans, the morning event called "FairPrice Walks With U" was attended by some 5,000 participants and 1,000 FairPrice staff. The guests of honour included Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean and People's Association chief executivedirector Ang Hak Seng.

NTUC FairPrice Foundation had pledged to donate $100 to the scheme for each registrant but decided to double its contribution after all 5,000 places for the walk were filled up.

More than 20,000 needy families and individuals benefit from the voucher scheme each year. Since 2002, FairPrice Foundation has contributed $11 million worth of FairPrice vouchers to the Scheme. The vouchers are given to all constituencies in Singapore through the grassroots organisations.

This looks like given out through a PAP associated organization?

20,000 families is a very small number compared to the total population of Singapore. Assuming an average family size of 5, that's a mere 100,000 people or one football stadium full.

The other 98% of Singaporeans are obviously doing very, very well thanks to the PAP and do not need any assistance whatsoever.

Singaporeans should concentrate on celebrating the achievements of the successful members of society and not bother too much about the small minority of losers who refuse to put in the effort required to be useful members of society and have adopted an entitlement mentality.

So how much money (value of voucher) is one of those poor Singaporean family getting?

What base r u using? 5 mil? 6mil? Remember the 5 or 6 mil includes PRs also. In any case 100k is not a small no by any measure!

Anything less than 5% is a small number.

You take their word for it?

Then you are a bigger fool than you even realise.

The Pap cannot seem to change their style. They pick a number in this case 20000 and harp on it that they helping the poor.

If the real figure was 200000 would you think you would want to ' reach out' to them?

This old pattern of skewing figures, telling half truths, out right denial and in some case really cheat the Sinkie is what they are capable of.

With a Sinkie so daft and balless, the pappies might as well just print news that never even happen.

What a fucking joke it is!

After the PAP maggots and cockroaches and civil serpents screwed and fucked and robbed sinkies of 500?? 600?? 700?? BILLIONS into
smear of shit on sole of shoe LKY Stinkapore sovereign funds and their own fucking pays, they dare to talk
of 1 million dollars back to some sinkies?

And fucking idiots who say how good that is in this fucking thread are fucking cheebye idiots.
Paid too also from the hundreds of billions that they screwed and fucked from Sinkies.

VOTE OUT ALL THOSE PAP MAGGOTS AND COCKROACHES IN 2016

They should give out food voucher to purchase only vegetarian food.

If all the pee-a-pee scums had donated part of their income, we wouldn't have need all these wayang activities and wasted everybody's weekend.

I'm surprised the figure is so high. I suspect that at least 50 to 60% of those 20,000 families are simply freeloaders who pulling a fast one and pretending to be poor.

Singaporeans are very wealthy. Just look at the queues for useless "Hello Kitty" dolls and Samsung Galaxy 4s. This proves that Singaporeans are a wealthy lot. The stats speak for themselves.

Obviously you have not come back to Sinkland and look see look see for yourself the poverty areas back here.

You based on 'don't know what you have read and heard' and type your opinions here.

The papies love Stats. With that and the control of the media, they can spin figures round the daft Sinkie to make them so confused that even a drug junkie high on drugs, fare so much better than these Sinkie.LoL

I was there last December and all I saw was a very successful and wealthy nation. I saw more Mercs, Beemers, Audis, Bentleys and Lambos in my one week in Singapore than I've seen in a whole decade in OZ and NZ.

In NZ, I'll probably see one Merc a week. In Singapore, almost every other car is a Continental luxury model.

The PAP has done an excellent job in wealth creation. Opportunities abound. However, you can't blame the government if certain individuals are too damned lazy to make something of their lives and expect other hardworking taxpayers to feed, cloth and house them.

These poor families should be banish to those live firing islands like Palau Pawai and Sudong.
Sinkieland is no place for these losers....culling is the only solution.

That's where the problem is.

This fuck place has a great wealth divide. The rich gets richer and are flaunting it so obviously but the poor stagnate and many gets poorer.

Needless to say which group of ppl forms the two latter batches.

You don't need to take my word for this. But in 10 years and more later, the place will see such numbers of poorer ppl who have reached their senior ages that the Pappy would have to think of a scheme to 'euthanise' ( sorry if the word was spelled incorrectly) them.

The lack of morals and ethics of the newer gen ( no thanks of course to the PAP) compounds the problem to care for their aged.

Needless to say as the rich and the Pappy Elites enrich themselves so much in the earlier years will find that compassion with a greedy heart, does not exist.

hi there

1. bro, in no time.
2. such "below the line" families shall be literally moved across the causeway.
3. so much for affordability hoh:kma:

any possibility of merger? :o:o:o

Don't worry. Andrew will settle all these.
He will start by distributing food vouchers with his kids next weekend, although the kids, being spoilt brats, are reluctant.
The wife will be "busy".
