Jasime Ser: Finally, I am content.

JASMINE Ser got the gold she craved on Sunday, scorching her Malaysian rivals in her pet event: the 10m air rifle.

She scored 501.7, never shooting less than a 10.0 in the final round.

Nur Ayuni Halim took silver with 497.5, and compatriot Nur Suryani Taibi the bronze with 496.9.

Ser, who shot 388 in qualifying for a two shot lead and was armed with a fresh pair of contacts after complaining of blurry sight, could not wipe the smile off her face.

After criticising her own performances since shooting started last Monday, the 20-year-old told The Straits Times: 'Finally, I am content'.

This is Singapore's fifth gold of the Delhi Games, matching the record haul from the Melbourne Games in 2006.

NZPA - Aucklander Tracey Lambrechs achieved personal bests in the snatch and the clean and jerk on her way to her fifth-place finish in the Commonwealth Games women's 75kg plus weightlifting competition today.

Lambrechs, 25, achieved 99kg in the snatch and 127kg in the clean and jerk, for a total of 226kg.

Going into the competition, her best in the snatch was 98kg and in the clean and jerk 122kg, so she set personal bests in both, and for her total.

"I'm very pleased," said Lambrechs. "To have set personal bests at the Commonwealth Games ... I couldn't be happier."

She said she had found the competition a bit intimidating for a start, but that she had gained confidence as it went on.

The gold medal went to Samoan Ele Opeloge, who was outstanding in the 11-strong field. She snatched 125kg and clean and jerked 160kg for a world-class total of 285kg.

This placed her 30kg ahead of silver medallist Maryam Usman of Nigeria. Australian Deborah Acason was third with 245kg.

Women's 100m champ fails dope test
11 October 2010

SYDNEY: Commonwealth Games women's 100m winner Osayemi Oludamola, who claimed gold when Australia's Sally Pearson was controversially disqualified for false-starting, has failed a dope test, a report said Monday.

The Sydney Morning Herald said a senior Games anti-doping official confirmed the Nigerian had tested positive for a banned stimulant, but would not comment on whether she would be stripped of her medal.

"There are a few bridges to cross yet, including the testing of her B (second) sample. Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet," the unnamed official was quoted as saying.

Commonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell was due to give a press briefing shortly in New Delhi, the report said.

Oludamola finished second behind Pearson but was awarded gold when the Australian was disqualified, some hours later, after a protest from the English team, leaving her in tears.
