Supporters of India's main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hold a cardboard cut-out of Suresh Kalmadi, president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Commonwealth Organising Committee chairman, during a protest in New Delhi September 28, 2010. The supporters protested against what they said was mishandling in the organisation of the Games. Hundreds of athletes arrived in New Delhi for the scandal-hit Commonwealth Games on Tuesday, setting their sights on winning medals rather than concerns over filthy accommodation, a dengue fever epidemic and security.

this is not the correct way of making sangbag bunker, first some of the bag too big, they have to pound it to make it more compact.
next they have to place the second layer crosswise from first layer and repeat this.

ah neh, they are useless, they cant make even a simple sandbag bunker.

If U look at the picture above. The ones who did the bunker are the workers, not the military guys. I don't think most workers are trained to build bunkers

Accommodation problems persist for Delhi athletes The air conditioning unit on a balcony was leaking BBC Scotland has seen evidence of ongoing accommodation issues after being invited into the Commonwealth Games athletes' village in Delhi.

Loose wiring and leaky air conditioning units could be seen at Team Scotland's living quarters, along with unfinished kitchens and missing railings.

More than 100 Scottish athletes are already staying at the complex.

Team Scotland said it was largely satisfied with its area but voiced concerns about other blocks.

Team Scotland had delayed its arrival in Delhi until Saturday after Commonwealth Games Scotland chairman Michael Cavanagh said the accommodation facilities were unfit for human habitation.

More than 7,000 athletes and officials are due to stay at the site for the duration of the Games, which are due to begin on 3 October.

On Tuesday morning, BBC Scotland correspondent Kevin Keane was invited into the area where Scottish athletes have been staying for two nights.

Bare wires could be seen hanging from ceilings "As we entered, water was pouring into the central concourse from a leaking air conditioning unit two floors up," he said.

"Inside, bare wiring hangs from the ceilings of the apartments The kitchens are out of bounds, unfinished.

"And there are some internal balcony areas without railings."

He added that Team Scotland's greatest concerns were for the facilites of other athletes who had yet to arrive at the site.

He said that some parts of the complex remained "no-go areas".

Only a few of the 71 nations have so far checked into the games village.

More than 17,000 staff have been employed to ensure the security of the Games, including 63 guards with automatic weapons who will guard the Glasgow delegation.

Monkeys to guard
A CRACK team of monkeys have been deployed to provide security for athletes at the Commonwealth Games in India.
Athletes have been plagued by packs of wild rhesus monkeys breaking into buildings and stealing from their rooms at the games in New Delhi.

Organisers have now hired a team of 40 large grey langur monkeys to chase off their smaller cousins in an effort to keep buildings safe.

Patrol ... langur monkeys with their handlers. One official told local media: "They will scare the smaller monkeys away because they are real pests and very destructive."

Meanwhile, a team of 50 traditional snake charmers has been hired after one athlete found a live cobra in his room.

Senior Games official Lalit Bhanot said: "This is being done for the safety of those in the village."

Organisers also revealed they have hired an emergency team of cowboys in anticipation of a demonstration by a farmers' group which has threatened to drive hundreds of cows and buffaloes into the city.

Mr Bhanot said: "All this is to make the city hassle-free during the games."

The run-up to the games, set to open on Sunday, has been plagued by disasters, including a stadium bridge collapsing and the athletes' village being branded "uninhabitable".

Many top athletes have pulled out of the event - also beset by terrorist threats, monsoon floods, disease and allegations of dodgy construction.

Doctor debacle sours Commonwealth Games

THE troubled Games village suffered another blow with revelations there are currently only two doctors and two nurses for more than 2200 Commonwealth Games athletes.

There are no physiotherapists, ambulances or stretchers.

Many medical practitioners cannot get into venues because accreditation cards have not been delivered.

"We don't have a physiotherapy machine or physiotherapists with us," a doctor told Delhi’s Midday paper on the condition of anonymity.

"Even stretcher-bearers and ambulances are not available. These are the things of the utmost importance. If an athlete gets injured while playing we need a physiotherapist to treat him."

The Games village has suffered a myriad of problems from hygiene issues, snakes, monkeys, stray dogs, dirty toilets and power outages.
But the dining hall got the stamp of approval from Australian athletes today
