SINGAPORE: Two men were injured Monday morning (Jul 24) after the motorcycle they were on collided with a car that had stopped in the right-most lane on Seletar Expressway (SLE).

The accident took place at around 10.40am on the SLE towards the Bukit Timah Expressway before Lentor exit.

In a video posted on social media, the motorcycle was seen crashing into the back of the stationary car, which had its hazard lights on and its right door and boot open.

The rider, Mr Danny Raj Muniappan, suffered from serious head injuries, a ruptured bladder, a fractured pelvic bone and has lost a lot of blood. His left arm and left leg are broken in 2 places each. He is still unconscious.
HIs pillion, Mr Trivikram, also suffered a fractured pelvic bone and a broken leg and has been wading in and out of consciousness. He is unable to speak.

2 Malaysian men were flung off their bikes and sustained serious injuries when the motorcycle they were on collided head first with a stationary vehicle parked along the Seletar Expressway on Monday.

The accident, which was captured in a viral video, shows the rider Mr Danny crashing into the car and slumping onto the ground, while the rider was flung into the air, landing head first onto the ground a distance away.

Mr Danny Raj Muniappan, 25 and his pillion, Mr Trivikram R. L., 21, had ended their shift as Certis Cisco security officers at Changi Airport when they were heading home along the SLE that morning at 10.30AM. The accident happened near the Lentor Avenue exit.

Both men are now fighting for their lives at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital with severe injuries.

He was speeding, no doubt. But from his angle, as he weaved from left to right, he was not able to see the stationary car hidden by the car behind. By the time, he overtook it and saw the stationary car just in front, it was too late. He went right smack into it. His pillion rider went airborne.

It must 've been a hell of a ride.

The way motorcyclists ride in Asia everyday ie straddle in between lanes weave in between lanes is not recommended nor taught in any form. In Canada it would be considered dangerous riding.

So everyday these motorcyclists in Asia are risking their lives riding like that. You are supposed to ride in the middle of the lane.

for your info, lane splitting (yes, that's the official definition of motor cycles weaving in traffic) is legal in californicate. only state in the u.s. to legalize it. interestingly, stats indicate lower number of accidents resulting in death of motor cyclists in california than other 49 states. it can be argued that lane splitting allows biker to brake less abruptly in between vehicles thus reducing probability of hitting rear of vehicles in freeway traffic, even in so called speedy and smooth flow conditions. in fact, in slow, heavy and dense traffic, it's safer for everyone as they stop and crawl. and bikers can zoom by between vehicles knowing other vehicles have a slower and more difficult time changing lanes. in speedy conditions, vehicles can tail gate at high speed and suddenly brake hard, causing motobike behind to do the same. and the result is detrimental to the biker.

of course lah. riding bike is extremely dangerous and risky in sf as traffic is horrendous with so many tourists, pedestrians, red lights, stop signs, and a horde of errant drivers including public transit bus drivers. even riding a bicycle these days is hazardous. so many bikers and cyclists got killed last year.

we're comparing lane splitting to tailgating. bikes if cannot lane split will tailgate anyway as they have higher power to weight ratio, thus following a car safely behind (at a safe distance) is unnatural to the human biker. some other vehicles will squeeze right in the gap, causing bikes to brake or slow down resulting in hazardous condition. either tailgate or not tailgate, the biker in-lane rule is actually more hazardous to the biker in the long run. sooner or later with 69% probability biker will hit the rear of a vehicle. lane splitting has its hazards too, such as vehicle changing lanes without rearview mirror and blindspot checks. or wide body trucks going too fast and losing lane discipline. there is safe lane splitting and there is unsafe lane splitting. of course, the law in californicate only allows safe lane splitting. it does not encourage unsafe lane splitting like these m&d bozos did.

In Canada people ride motorbikes mainly for leisure. Eg on weekends and on empty highways. It is not a viable means for commuting - weather, snow hail etc. People who ride motorbikes are rich blokes and gals.

In Asia it is poor people who ride scooters and tiny motorbikes as a was to commute.

Only in sinkyland does it make news. They die like that on a daily basis in Mudland. I commute on the Tpe in the direction of Yishun almost on a daily basis. You should have seen the m&d shitskins playing kereta tapi and lane splitting at the same time. Yes single line close to one and another. Only by the grace of pragmatic sinkie drivers these shitskins don't die.
