Bro Johnny, I am also planning to move to Niagara Falls, Ontario where a bungalow on 12,000 sq ft of freehold land costs C$180,000 and a Lexus 350 hybrid costs C$32,000 only.

All the best my fren.

C$1 = S$1.2911.

Good idea, but can you survive the harsh Winter?
FYI your information is incorrect. a bungalow on 12,000sq ft freehold land costs >CAD300k in general @least, Lexus 350 > C$48k
Niagara Falls to Toronto is 130km away and driving time @ 150km/hr takes a good 1 hour and not 30 min.:smile:

Yeah, been to Niagara Falls from Toronto before, the coach trip was about two hours. Nice retirement town, many Canadian and British veteran soldiers retired there. I heard some of them long service with high enough ranks, ribbons and medals even got their nice houses free.

Are there any restrictions on foreigners?
Can I just buy and use as a holiday bungalow for friends and family visiting that place? I'm not keen to move there permanently.

Sure you can but IMO better NOT. You need a trusted friend to take care, when left unoccupied you are asking for big big troubles.:confused: Anyway you can stay at a very good motel room (double beds for 4) near the Falls @ C$300/wk.

Hi Ram, glad you have been there. We are planning to move back to that area and for Winter drive down south to stay in Florida (Dec-Mar). So have Summer weather all year round. No stress, no rush, no sardine MRT, no crowded
Orchard Rd mall shoppers, more open breathing/green places. Btw Niagara Falls has a big Factory Outlets mall for upmarket branded goods.

Wow, enviable lifestyle you've got there. Enjoy and Merry Christmas!

When down south at Florida, especially if you've got children, don't forget to "camp" a few days at Orlando for Disney-Universal-Epcot in spring before summer sets in, too hot and too crowded by then.

Only C$300k? My house on a 21,000 sq ft plot overlooking a lake costs me C$2.5m. Right now it's -6 degree and with central heating we're pretty comfortable.

Bought my Lexus brand new from a parallel importer and I didn't have to pay C$48k.

Typo error: it shud be the drive from Buffalo to Niagara Falls which takes a little under half an hour.

Bot my Lexus ES 350 from Northtown Lexus, Niagara Falls for C$31,500 in 2009 during the peak of the financial crisis.

Believe they are now selling the similar model for C$35,000.

Not a good choice to buy Mercs in US

I suggest you get a BMW or Audi

My personal experience is that it's cheaper to maintan and service. I am on the west coast.

If you are retiring, I suggest living in further south and in a place with better healthcare services. NF is a very cold and bitter place in the winter, which is right now.

Hi Bert

Thk for your suggestion but we will settle for a new Camry. Living further south or CA is also a very good idea. I was for 3 yrs in Mountain View before. Our future plan is to be in Ontario n spend Winter in Florida n Singapore/Asia.
Happy Holidays pal.

Yes, there are 3 casinos in Niagara and no need to pay the $100 entrance fee too.

When I went back to Niagara as a tourist, it was for the beauty of the falls & not because of the casinos. Had previously gone there on a day trip with some friends while living in Toronto but back then we didn't have time to take the boat(Maid of the Mist) to the falls. On the follow-up trip I had more time to take the boat ride, look around the town, etc

On a visit to Montreal I also noticed that there was a casino. I'm no fan of gambling but nothing can compare to Vegas. There are plenty of shows going on every night. On weekends there aren't any rooms available in that town, found that out when I got there on a weekend & tried to find a room

Did you not mentioned you have migrated to Australia.:confused:

Never been to Australia before but I have alot of friends & relatives who have made it their new home. In a few years it'll be my turn to re-locate but don't think it'll be Australia.
