Re: very disturbing to see many malay FB friends changing their profile pics to this.
What most pple (including Muslims) don't realize, is that the greatest victims of such Islamisation, are the Muslims themselves, particularly the women. Forced to wear hijabs and burqas, is something that is obviously oppressive to these women.
'Protecting modesty' via such means, is a ridiculous and outdated concept in today's society. The religious books (of all major religions) were written thousands of years ago, and religious practices must progress and evolve with the times.
Some pple might say, "but if they wish to do it, we should respect their choice!". Problem is, many Muslim women don't actually wish to do it, but are forced by community pressure, and also, bear in mind that in most Islamic countries, trying to renounce or leave Islam for themselves (a human right of free will) may get them killed. In Singapore, they may not be killed, but they may still suffer ostracization. Nonetheless, hopefully progressive Muslim women will take this opportunity to speak out.
It's ok to give Muslim women a choice to wear the hijab and burqa, but not ok to force them to do so (directly or indirectly via community pressure).
