Two Indonesian scholars saved a Singaporean

I sincerely thank the two girls for saving a Singaporean. But their very existence (which I don't blame them), reflects a more serious problem in our society.

The 13 and 16 year old students are Indonesians on the ASEAN International Scholarship, staying in SAJC's St Andrew’s Hall, in Potong Pasir, which is part of St Andrew’s Village. Let's not mention their names here, because they do no wrong but our country is sick.

Is there a need to raise other people's child, as young as 13 years old? Giving them free lodging, allowance, free education while local-born students don't get that kind of support, all the way to University?

Cedar Girl is probably the best girls' school in NE Singapore. Some Cedar Girl's students travelled as far as Punggol & Sengkang every morning. In the furthest Northeast of Singapore, there is no JC, no poly, no ITE. Every morning, the 17-21 years old students from this area, spend an hour or more to get to NYP, TP, TPJC, NYJC, SAJC or AMK ITE. (Serangoon Anderson JC is moving in late 2026). Imagine if our god-damned country provided the same lodgings to two deserving local-born students studying in Cedar Girls or SAJC, we would have helped two local families.

MOE offers scholarships to bright young students from ASEAN countries to study in Singapore.

Students will have opportunities to broaden their horizons and develop important skills such as leadership, communication and other life skills. They can also help to promote goodwill and understanding among young people from different countries and Singapore. Both international and local students can look forward to opportunities to develop cross-cultural skills and a global outlook.
