Hera Chan Shares Challenges of Filming Her First Drama

1611147706515.png

Hera Chan (陳曉華) stars in her first major supporting role in currently broadcast TVB drama, On-Lie Game <迷網>. As this is her first drama since winning the Miss Hong Kong 2018 and Miss Chinese International 2019 titles, Hera reveals that she is under a lot of pressure learning to be a good actress.

In the drama, Hera plays the mature and calm Madam Siu who leads a team of interns in the network and technology investigation team. Confessing that it was challenging to portray a character so different from her real-life personality without any prior acting experience, she initially thought it would be sufficient to prepare for the role by memorizing the script.

When filming started, Hera soon realized she needed to learn from her co-stars Samantha Ko (高海寧), Mat Yeung (楊明) and Brian Chu (朱敏瀚). Hera said, “At first I felt a lot of pressure. I was afraid of making mistakes, but then my seniors encouraged and told me it is normal to have outtakes. They told me to stop giving myself so much pressure, and gradually I was able to adapt.”

However, as Hera thought about her acting, she recognized there is room for improvement, “I used to think that other people can act so naturally, so I wondered if it would be really easy. However, when I was put in that spot, it was very difficult to play someone who is so different from myself. I have shot a few more dramas now and although I do not know if I have improved, at least I know I am less stressed.”

Moving Beyond the Miss Hong Kong Title

Joining Miss Hong Kong on a whim, Hera surprised even herself with the decision. “I’m a person who doesn’t think about the consequences, and I only decided to register for Miss Hong Kong after a few days. People told me to register when I was younger, but because I was shy, there was no action. It wasn’t until 2018 that I suddenly registered. I believe in fate, but I don’t think about the very long-term. Since the opportunity came, I will give my 100 percent effort to continue.”

Giving up her nursing career to join TVB has made Hera step outside of her comfort zone to embrace new challenges every day. Hera said, “Before joining the entertainment industry, I was very pessimistic, afraid to try new things, and was very lazy. However, after entering the industry, I was exposed to many new things. I saw many people around me who are working really hard and would film without any breaks. They let me know that I need to work hard and manage my time before I can make any progress.”

While Hera appears to have a sweet and gentle image, she was careful to show upkeep the elegant image due to her Miss Hong Kong title. Now that she has passed the obligations of Miss Hong Kong to her successor, Carmaney Wong (黃嘉雯), Hera can be herself again. “After passing my title, I felt I didn’t need to be too constrained. It is very tiring to keep the Miss Hong Kong image for a long time, so I will let my true personality show. I do not want to deliberately change myself.”

Hongkong actress Sisley Choi was just crowned Best Actress for her role in Legal Mavericks 2020 at the TVB Anniversary Awards last weekend, and it looks like the media has wasted no time in digging up dirt on her.

Yesterday (Jan 14), they went to town with reports that the 29-year-old is seeing Sam Choi, the owner of Hongkong gold wholesaler and jeweller Sun Gold Group.

According to the reports, Sam is in his 30s and often flaunts his wealth on Instagram, showing off his million dollar luxury timepieces, supercars, and Louis Vuitton trunks filled with cash.

Now this is where it gets interesting.

According to Apple Daily, not only is Sam married with a daughter, he also has a mistress, a 27-year-old Hongkong model named Vivian Law. And if you think that's scandalous, Apple Daily also claims that Sam 'proposed' to Vivian, who’s been dubbed a "young Athena Chu”, with a five-carat diamond ring last September.
When Vivian was asked if she had broken up with Sam since he is with Sisley, she insisted that she and Sam are still together and emphasised that he “has never been married”.

Wait, what...

After reports of his relationship with Sisley made headlines, Sam changed his personal and Sun Gold’s Instagram accounts to private.
Sisley, who was seen leaving in Sam's limo after the TVB Anniversary Awards, has brushed off the rumours, saying there is "nothing special" going on between her and Sam and that she had merely borrowed his car.
She explained that she used to borrow her ex-boyfriend Hubert’s sister’s car to get around but when Sam learned of this, he gave her the contact of a driver and she's been using him since.

“Whenever I need a driver, I will look for him. It’s just more convenient. I pay him for his service each time. It’s nothing special,” she said.

Sisley Choi pleasantly surprised over TV Queen win

1611845507476.png

Most TVB actresses would usually take ten years and multiple smaller honours before finally winning the TV Queen award, which is why Sisley Choi admitted that she was shocked but pleasantly surprised over winning Best Actress at the 2020 TVB Anniversary Awards.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who won the accolade for her performance in the sequel of her hit 2017 series, "Legal Mavericks" after only six years in the business, stated that she had never thought that it would take only so many years to win the award that has long been her dreams.

"After competing in Miss Hong Kong, it had not been an easy road. I don't want to talk about it anymore. I am just very happy and honoured to receive this award," she said.

Sisley stated that she is planning to celebrate her victory with her family as they are the ones who had supported her the most.

Asked if she will invite Hubert Wu to the celebration, the actress - who was romantically linked to the singer - laughed and said, "I haven't bumped into him after winning the award, but he has always been supportive of me. He won in the music category, and had nothing to do with my drama. But I have no problem celebrating with him. We are all friends."

Sisley started her acting career in 2014 following her run as the first runner-up of Miss Hong Kong 2013 through the series, "Overachievers". She won her first TVB award in 2017 - Most Popular Female Character for her role in "Legal Mavericks". It was her only TVB Anniversary honour prior to winning TV Queen.

Gigi Lai, 49, Pens Touching Message To 64-Year-Old Billionaire Husband On Their 12th Wedding Anniversary

1611934800961.png

Theirs is a love story that many didn’t see coming, yet it's also a tale as old as time.

Gigi Lai, 49, famously quit showbiz in 2008 to take over her brother’s skin care business after the latter was involved in a serious car accident that left him wheelchair-bound. It’s said that around this time, billionaire Patrick Ma, whose family owns Hongkong’s largest media group, the Oriental Press Group, swooped in and swept the beauty off her feet.

Though he's 15 years her senior, his sincerity and kindness towards her family won Gigi over, and in 2009, they got hitched to everyone’s surprise.

12 years later, the couple, who have three daughters, 10-year-old twins Pricia and Gianna, and Pagella, eight, are still as loving as ever.

To celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary on Monday (Jan 18), Gigi posted three images on her IG: Two close-up photos of her and Patrick’s interlocked hands and a video of a bouquet and a handwritten card that her husband had given her.

She also penned a really heartfelt message that she dedicated to Patrick. She wrote: “When you’re a married couple, it’s not possible to have that feeling where your heart beats faster when you’re with each other. From meeting, to getting married, until now, we have gone through many phases."

She continued: "If you were to ask me the secret to getting along [with your other half], I think the most important thing is to be ‘real’. You have to learn and accept the real side of the other person, appreciate his good points, accept each other’s weaknesses, and support one another. When you can be the real you in front of him, that’s when the both of you are at your best when you’re together.... Love isn’t just a fleeting feeling. It requires both parties to work on it with care and attention. A slow and steady love that lasts forever is what I am after."

Gigi then ended her post by looking forward to the future."12 years have flown by like that. I thank you for your protection and for your companionship, which has allowed me to grow in the most carefree way. I believe that our future still has a lot more exciting things that are waiting for us to discover hand-in-hand. Happy Anniversary to you & me.”
