Condolences to ex-PrezTrump & new potential candidate as President. May he have a speedy recovery. Also to the bystanders whom were victims of this horrific assassination attempt on another fellow Human whom only spoke freely in a land where there are LEGAL recourse to resolve personal or civilizational issues. NONE needs to die for words spoken.
It is only ACTIONS that would be JUDGED upon by citizens & legal authorities such as the Supreme Court that would determine the necessary legal actions, & NOT by anyone else, as Civilization is not built upon by a single Human, but by the COLLECTIVE.

The assassin is a very well trained sniper & professional:-
A) He did not choose to be directly in front of the high profile victim, as there would be MANY trained eyes looking in front & ready to pounce, to save the victim & destroy the assassin.
B) He chose the side, as peripheral vision of bodyguards is often ignored as their sight are always concentrated in the front.
A bullet thru the side of the victim's head is enough to kill, not necessary to be in between the eyes.
However, as the victim's head was in constant motion - looking front, side back, etc, it was a difficult shot to take, but the assassin had to resort to a chance, despite the wind & heat conditions as well as the victim's constant head movement, & unfortunately for the sniper but fortunately for the victim, the bullet only grazed the ear of the victim...
C) As he is well trained, he would leave NO EVIDENCES of his being behind - no IDs, no incriminating notes, scrubbed out serial numbers on his weapon & not even a cell phone. However, his face alone is enough for FBI & its CSI to pierce for evidences.
i) Surveillance cameras abound - on streets, buses, stores, car rental agencies, abodes, etc, right down to his shoes & clothes worn which can be discern from which store or home he bought or stolen from.
ii) Family, relatives & even if he is alone & live a lonely life, - NO Human is born out of a vacuum, & while aging may change one's looks, at most only 20%. With Artificial Intelligence based upon research of Human aging, his face can be reconstructed to whatever age that another Human or group of Humans will remember - from kindergarten to a bar that he patronized the night before the assassination attempt....
iii)...and MUCH more evidences can be gathered by trained intel agencies....best left unshared here...

For experienced snipers, they would chance a closer range, to ensure effective target destruction than to rely on environment factors such as wind conditions, heat generation from crowds, etc, & at the least a chance to survive in the chaos & turmoil that follows.

Little is known so far about Crooks, who was named by the FBI around seven hours after the shooting.
Law enforcement said he was 20 years old and from Bethel Park in Pennsylvania.
The US Secret Service said the gunman was "neutralised" at the rally.

Officials: Weapon used in shooting may have been purchased legally by shooter's father
Investigators are looking into whether the gun used by the shooter was purchased legally by the gunman's father.
That's what two two senior law enforcement officials have told our US partner network NBC News.
They also said the motive of the gunman remains unclear.
The officials, who are either involved or directly briefed on the investigation into the attempted assassination on Trump, said the FBI is processing the crime scene at the rally to determine the sequence of events.
They're also working on finding out more about the suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks.
Law enforcement earlier confirmed he was 20 years old and from Bethel Park in Pennsylvania.

Nigel Farage says he will attend the Republican Party's convention in Milwaukee next week to support Donald Trump.
The Reform UK leader blamed the assassination attempt on the Left and the media in an opinion piece in The Telegraph.
He said he'll be going to Milwaukee "to support my friend, Donald Trump, as we head into the later stages of an era-defining election", adding: "He is the favourite to win – and after today's heinous acts he will win."
He said he was also going to the convention - which starts tomorrow and ends on Thursday – to "stand shoulder to shoulder with President Trump and the US to stand up for democracy".

There's a significant police presence at Trump Tower in New York today after an assassination attempt on the former president on Saturday.
Donald Trump was shot in the ear by a person understood to have been on a nearby roof, while an audience member at his rally in Pennsylvania was killed.
Republicans working with '40 agencies' to ensure convention's security
Work has begun to ensure security is adequate at the Republican National Convention, which kicks off tomorrow.
That's according to Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley, who told US broadcaster Fox News authorities are working together.
"We feel very comfortable that we're working with the Secret Service, we're working with 40 different law enforcement agencies in terms of what that security is going to look like," he said.
Meanwhile, senior advisers for the Trump campaign, Chris LaCivita and Susie Wile, have urged staff not to come into either the Washington DC or West Palm Beach office today as they ensure the security of both locations.
"We are enhancing the armed security presence with 24/7 officers on-site," they wrote in a letter, as reported by our US partner network NBC News.
"Additional security assessments will be in place. Our highest priority is to keep all of you on this staff safe."
They confirmed the Republican National Committee convention will continue as planned in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

WASHINGTON — Former President Donald Trump said in a social media post he was "shot with a bullet" in the upper part of his ear during the shooting at his campaign rally Saturday in Pennsylvania.
In his first statement since what law enforcement officials said was an assassination attempt, Trump thanked law enforcement and extended his condolences to the family of those hurt in the shooting.
The U.S. Secret Service said in a statement Saturday night that one spectator was killed, and two were critically injured after an attacker fired "multiple shots" at Trump's rally. Sources told the Associated Press the gunman was outside of the rally.
"I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania," Trump's statement on Truth Social said. "Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so l realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS
