Trump hits Singapore with 10% Tarriffs

MAGA and non-MAGA folks' reaction.

As much as I hate Pap, I still believe the MFA handles diplomatic relations very carefully. For LW to publicly criticise the MAGA tariffs, he would have gotten a nod from big players in Washington/WEF.

What war with China??

Do not be misled by the media. The term 'war' should never be loosely applied.

Did PrezXi pointed a gun at Americans & exhorted that they should buy China goods? Did PrezTrump pointed a gun at China & made they buy American goods? NONE.

The tariffs or known by many other names such as taxes, custom duties, etc, etc....are usually passed on to consumers to pay for such.

Thus, EACH Human STILL has FREE WILL & choice - to buy or not to buy from a vendor. It's a Free Market, not a military conflict. The Winners are still Consumers & investors, not Nation States.

USA is a resource rich Naiton & needs not sell anything to anyone whom wishes not to. It's a consumerist society whom believed that money must be circulated in order for growth with its 300million population of avg USD$6000/mth per citizen.

China has a 1.4 billion population to feed, with each citizen earning an average salary of USD$1800/mth in urban centres & far less in the interior.

Trade propels growth with revenue earned to fund necessary social expenditure. Ultimately, it is what that appeals to consumers would make them part with their hard earned money willingly in honest transactions. No bullets need to be fired.

yah, thus far the pap has been effective in it's diplomacy and foreign relations. I am pleasantly surprised LW has publicly spoken out about this, twice so far. And I support this move. I am sure he had local counsel in the form of Kishore, Bilahari, Tommy Koh, LHL and hence by extension, the WEF.

I'm quite surprised how many times his anti tariff speeches had been cited by foreign media. Finally we're relevant

Could be his spoken English is clear and devoid of accent? And also a non-ccp chinese man telling off the US could be seen as refreshing.

Nah. The top 2 greatest chinaman moments were Lky's 1967 Meet the press session and Bruce Lee's 1971 "Be water my friend" interview

Exactly! It's been far too long. Time for a new chinaman moment.
I got one more for you.

Florida born 2nd gen ABC freestyle rapper called MC Jin (Ouyang Jin). In 2002 he went on a televised rap battle competition and won 7 weeks in a row! Against black, Hispanic and all other top freestyle rappers in the US. 7 consecutive weeks!

Then he went on to HK and China to promote the underground hip hop scene. Today he's still a clean cut born again Christian serving as a role model for Asian youth in America. Respect

Have not heard of him until now. He's an impressive ABC, to beat the blacks at their own game. Good for him!

The PAP is the biggest fuckup in diplomatic and foreign relations. When u spend $25 billion a year on military, every neighbour wonders what you are up to and views u with suspicion. The only diplomatic posture feasible for singapore is neutrality

I get what you're saying. I believe Sg wants to friendly and warm, but also ready to repel unwanted advances.

Wow, China retaliated again with up to 125% tariffs on US Imports. Let's see how Trump will react. Elon now has to plead for tolong. US Futures are starting to trend downwards at this time of writing. Obigood.

China raises duties on US goods to 125%, hitting back at Trump tariff hike

China added that if the US continues to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods exported to the US, Beijing will ignore it.

BEIJING - China will impose 125 per cent tariffs on US goods from April 12, up from the 84 per cent previously announced, the finance ministry said on April 11.

The ministry added in a statement that if the US continues to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods exported to the US, China will ignore it because US goods would no longer make economic sense for importers.

The hike comes after the White House kept the pressure on China, the world’s No.2 economy and second-biggest provider of US imports, by singling it out for an additional tariff increase, having paused most of the “reciprocal” duties imposed on dozens of other countries.

“The US imposition of abnormally high tariffs on China seriously violates international and economic trade rules, basic economic laws and common sense and is completely unilateral bullying and coercion,” China’s Finance Ministry said.

Washington’s duties on Chinese products have “become a numbers game with no practical significance in economics”, a spokesperson said. “It will only further expose the United States’... bullying and coercion. It will become a joke.” REUTERS, AFP

Trump’s plan is to get Americans to embargo cheap stuff from China. The CCP is playing into Trump’s plans.

His plan will not materialize. Ordinary Americans are too addicted to cheap stuffs. Besides, he's raising the cost of living for the ordinary Americans tremendously, so what good will this be for Trump? Can one buy an American made shirt or dress in the US at the same price as the ones from China pre-tariff? No.

This yellow buffoon is a great attention seeker. He wants to be revered as the US King who can take China down to its knees. But, it's just wishful thinking. It'll backfire on him. Although I also don't like the CCP, but the way this yellow buffoon is presently behaving and acting is beyond redemption. Probably even Hell also doesn't want him.
