Total news blackout by state media on JBJ’s funeral and memorial service on 4 October 2008
Posted on October 3, 2008 by wayangparty
Dear readers,
It has come to our attention that the state media has imposed a total news blackout on JBJ’s funeral and memorial service tomorrow as of now.
(We have just checked the major papers on 4 October and the news blockade remains which means we can only get the news of JBJ’s funeral and memorial service out by mouth and the alternative media)
There is a short article in Wanbao tonight on WP leaders Low Thia Kiang and Sylvia Lim paying their last respects to JBJ, but there is no report on the upcoming events either.
Instead, the Straits Times carry a 2 page exclusive coverage on The Online Citizen by of all journalists, Jeremy Au.
Isn’t it strange that the Straits Times choose to promote TOC on the eve of JBJ’s funeral ?
Is TOC more important and newsworthy than the open letter written by Dana Lam and Braema Mathi to the Prime Minister 2 days ago ? Again there was not even a brief mention.
Who is more familar to ordinary Singaporeans ? JBJ or TOC editors ?
It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that this news blackout is imposed on purpose to prevent the news of JBJ’s funeral and memorial service from reaching a far wider audience so as to reduce the turnout tomorrow.
Imagine if every inch of grass at Hong Lim Park is filled up completely tomorrow by Singaporeans from all walks of life mourning the demise of JBJ in the presence of international reporters and observers ?
How will JBJ’s nemesis, the Hatchet man who once swore to make JBJ “crawl on his bended knees, and beg for mercy” feel when he sees his subjects flocking to show their love and support for his hated enemy ? That will quite be an embarrassment and his fragile heart may not be able to take it.
Please, we implore you again to spread the news of tomorrow’s funeral and memorial service to everybody you know:
JBJ’s funeral:
Date: 4 October 2008
Time: 4.30pm
Venue: Mandai Crematorium Hall 3 (map)
JBJ’s memorial service:
Date: 4 October 2008
Time: 6.30pm to 10pm
Venue: Hong Lim Park (Speakers Corner)
(For more details)
We will be updating our blog throughout the night today and tomorrow to give you extensive coverage of the events.
Some of you may be wondering why we are so passionate about JBJ when our blog is supposedly an “anti-WP” blog.
Let us reiterate again that The Wayang Party Club (Blog) was NEVER an “anti-WP” blog in the first place. Why should we attack the Party which our parents have supported all their lives ?
Some of our family members have been volunteering for WP under JBJ for over two decades. If not for the current lacklustre leadership of Low Thia Kiang, we will be taking over them to continue the struggle.
JBJ may have left us forever, but we can keep his spirit, dreams and legacy alive in our hearts every day to “MAKE IT RIGHT FOR SINGAPORE” !
