Recently, I visited a SingHealth Polyclinic Lab Clinic. As usual. Many elderly people were there. Some of these unsteady patients were tottering about and supported by their elderly wives, daughters or maids.

I noticed an old Malay man (around 80 years old). he held a walking stick in one hand and a small plastic container in the other. His wife assisted him. However, she could only bring him to the entrance of the toilet, after which, understandably, it was a no go zone for her.

The old man pleaded with the wife to assist him at the urinal. The poor wife knew her limitations and left him alone at the entrance.

SingHealth, had failed miserably to see to the physical needs of such elderly patients.

Why can't they have "porters" on stand-by to assist these people - taking over from others who bring them to the toilets?

Why can't there be special rooms for use by such people. Their wives, daughters, maids, etc.. can follow them in and assist them.

If Singhealth wish to save costs by not using porters, then the least they could do is to provide such rooms for exclusive use by such people of both sexes.

The lack of such facilities for the old and frail clearly indicates that those "proffessionals" who constructed the building and those that approved such designs simply do not have the needs of such people in mind.

This is the sad case in Singapore today where the population of the old is rising steadily. The young generation seems to have lost such concerns, feelings and thoughts for the old and weak. They do not know how to emphatise. Maybe, these "super-intelligent technocrats" feel that they themselves have drank from the fountain of youth and will never age in the near future.

Is this is what we called "far-sightedness" of the young leaders?

Is Singhealth awaiting some disasters to happen and later be embroiled in civil suits?

Noted. Whose ward was the polyclinic in? Tomorrow I help you go complain

Maybe after this expensive "study trip" (with Geisha nights), he can help chiu?

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/gan-kim-yong-in-japan-to/816074.html

Health Minister and Minister-in-charge of Ageing Issues, Mr Gan Kim Yong, is leading a delegation of officials to Japan for a four-day trip from September 17-20 to study how the country is addressing the healthcare and ageing needs of its population.

noted that waiting time in a polyclinic is appalling too :o

for every lack and absence, there's an opportunity. senior and elder care can be a multi-million industry if you know how to capitalize on it. :D

Members of the establishment need to remember that the objective of government is to make the lives of ordinary people better.

Once upon a time, visiting the polyclinic was a fun experience. Up till the early-mid 1990s.

Everything became shit when they started importing FT doctors from countries such as Myanmar, and started the psuedo-privatisation and fake competition between NHG and SingHealth, just like the 'competition' between WWE RAW and Smackdown.

how many actually did that?

It appears that they may have either forgotten, or never knew it, because of the "establishment mentality" they inherited or acquired.

KNN! I donch need money for my investment ah? *chey*

I do not work for Singhealth or have any connection with them.

But to be fair, the poor old man's problem could be resolved if he were to proceed to the handicapped toilet. Both husband and wife can be in the handicapped toilet together. No need for the installation of some special room for the old or to make special arrangment to have a porter specially to attend to the old or infirmed.

I am also not familiar whether the particular Singhealth polyclinic (which one, by the way???) has handicapped toilets. For if there are non, then TS is right that this bloody sucker owes not only the old and infirmed, but also the handicapped an apology.

I thought these damned useless old farts are supposed to be shipped to Johore.

Sam,

Just to keep you well-informed about the latest changes involving old folks.

Once upon a time, Johore could have been willing to take in such people when the Great Announcement in Singapore. These was prior to the Cow-Gate Scandal in KL.

However, things have changed lately, eversince Lim Kit Siang conquered that turf.

As a filial son he feels that Singapore is still a better place for these old folks to die.

And on his heels came the latest announcement by the PM of Malaysia forbidding even ashes of ex-Malaysians like Chin Peng to come into Malaysia.

Can't the PAP make arrangements to ship them to Batam or Bintan instead.

Seriously these old farts are an eyesore and spoil the image of the country. They should be sent somewhere so they are out of sight out of mind.

there should be a trade-in program with japan. sg ship old farts to fukushima since the province is evacuated and depopulated, and japan ship their displaced youths from fukushima to sg. it will definitely improve the sg degenerative gene pool. :o

I have got a better idea. Just shoot anyone above a certain age. N any who have certain illness and disability. Get rid of the problem n not transfer it elsewhere.

Humans were not designed to live tat long. In the old days life expectancy was abt 40 or 50 yrs. Now its 80+. Live longer but more problems too. For example in the.past. dementia was seldom heard of as ppl.did not live tat long. Now they are talking about it as a future epedemic.
