If you feared for your child's life, would you pursue aggressively, the aggressor? You would flee from the scene of you were in fear.

it is possible and in fact quite likely. it is not easy to determine how a person responds to a fear stressor. Fight or flight? If he grew up surrounded by aggression, it would compute within him that aggression would resolve the stressor in a favourable way.
