Repeated ad infinitum, it is now accepted fact among the population. Constantly in Hong Kong's shadows, like a BMW ingesting fumes from a Mercedes Benz, Singaporeans seem to miss the fact that no Hong Kong government has ever taken credit for Hong Kong's success in transforming from a rocky outpost to an Asian city powerhouse. Not even the British who ruled the city for a hundred years would take full credit. Only the self-delusional government of ex PM Lee Kuan Yew did. Taiwan, with its corrupt and kung fu fighting parliamentarians, was also able to transform an essentially Chinese population to wealthy consumers. You don't see regular Taiwanese give credit to Chiang Kai Shek, that's for sure. The credit that only belongs to Lee Kuan Yew is uniquely a Made In Singapore construction. Idi Amin of Uganda pinned himself with medals but fooled nobody. The ex PM Lee had no pins but fooled everyone in Singapore-educated or otherwise. Apparently, he is not the only one in Singapore who succumbs easily to delusions, the population of Singapore shares that problem!
Why does Singapore fail at all? Why would Singaporeans leave a tropical island for, say, a racist nation like Australia to become 2nd class citizens like their aborigines? Or leave for countries like Canada more properly suited for polar bears with 2 inches of fat on most parts of their bodies? What is the equivalent Rwanda situation in Singapore where even those countries seem better for the moment? Their justice and law is based on the British Law of Precedence, except where you are a member of the political opposition party, in which case the Singapore government appeals to Australia and convenes a kangaroo court to sue you into bankruptcy under the unlikeliest of charges, all backed by their supreme court judges all well versed in kangaroo-lese. But who gets bothered by politics anyways when you're just a citizen who is enjoying a high standard of living? The government can't be the singular reasons why Singaporeans who live abroad choose to remain abroad.
While it appears that most Singaporeans speak proudly of their nation's success in spite of their delusional leaders and historians, the ones who have chosen to leave seems to think that its success is mostly delusional as well. But by recent statistics, everyone who seems to have any means to leave seems to be leaving, so that in fact, many of the population believe that this nation is built largely of delusions.
Just like Singapore, Australia, Canada, and the US are a nation of immigrants. Funny thing is, immigrants who reach those countries remain there for many generations. Singapore's paradox is being a rich, modern state of immigrants who remain in a state of migration. Singapore will never be a successful nation if it's population believe it is expected to fail. So what is it that makes a successful nation? Geography, government, its people or a combination of the 3? In Singapore's case, the people responsible for its success wants no part of it. Their geography will never change.
The only thing left to change is the Government.
