This is how you must behave if you have a sinkie wife.

Chow Yun Fatt lives off a HK$200 monthly allowance

SHANGHAI: He impressed audiences the world over with his performance as the suave God of Gamblers in the "God of Gambler" films.

He once single-handedly made trench coats fashionable in Hong Kong after appearing as the trench coat-wearing, gun-slinging Brother Mark in "A Better Tomorrow".

Hong Kong actor Chow Yun Fatt, who plays the ageing warlord Cao Cao in his upcoming film "The Assassins", has played all sorts of heroic characters in his film career.

But he recently revealed that he is actually rather henpecked at home, reported Chinese media.

"In reality, I am just a minor character and everything I do revolves around my wife. She takes care of all the money I earn from my film appearances and invests it. I only get a HK$200 (S$32) allowance each month.

"Don't be fooled. My onscreen personae are false, these heroes are all fake," said Chow with a wry grin, when he met reporters on Sunday during a promotional event for "The Assassins" in Shanghai.

The 57-year-old star added that he used to cook for his Singaporean wife, though she does the cooking now as he is busy working on films.

But even when it comes to his meals, Chow has no say at all.

"Whether the dishes are expensive or cheap, I don't know.

"I only eat, and don't even have the right to say if it's good or not," said Chow, drawing thunderous laughter from the gathered media.

Helmed by Chinese director Zhao Linshan, "The Assassins" stars Chow, Crystal Liu Yifei, Alec Su and Annie Yi.

The 130 million-yuan (S$25.5 million) film tells the tale of Cao Cao, a powerful warlord and statesman, who has to fend off assassins and pit his wits against those who plot against him.
