Chitchat The Official TCSS Thread

Hopefully, all the teams will go all out, since there is no BPL this weekend, but only FA Cup matches.

Some relegation battles too:
Fulham vs West Ham
Palace vs Norwich
Sunderland vs Villa

Sometimes these matches can be more exciting than usual because the teams are desperate to win and they really believe they can win, like West Ham vs West Brom last weekend.

The battle for both the title and the relegation places are very tight this year with 6 points currently separating the top 5 sides and 8 bottom sides. Even Sunderland has a good chance of avoiding the drop this year when historically, the team at the bottom at New Year usually gets relegated.

Now that the transfer window has opened, do you expect any big money transfers? Both Arsenal and Chelsea will be looking for strikers I'm sure.
Poor Torres, how the mighty have fallen...the £50m chump!

Southampton is in 9th place with 27 points, but they are closer to the bottom team than the top team!

Arsenal and Chelsea looking for strikers, Man Utd looking for midfielders, Liverpool and Everton need numbers for more squad strength.
They will sign players, but nobody top draw. Most of the top draw players are involved in the champions league with top teams or keeping their teams either surviving in their leagues or fighting for a european place.
Very very difficult to make a big impact signing.

I think it's fair to say Man Utd are out of the running for the title this year. They cannot afford to lose crucial games like these at OT.

Arsenal-Tottenham Preview: Spurs resurgent coming into FA Cup derby

The two north London rivals are second and third in the list of the competition's most historically successful clubs and both are enjoying good Premier League form

By Peter Hanson

Two of the FA Cup's most successful sides meet on Saturday when Arsenal host north London rivals Tottenham in the third round.

Manchester United have won the competition 11 times, more than any other team, but the Gunners are just one behind on 10 and Spurs sit third on the all-time list with eight.

The last major trophy that Arsene Wenger collected was the FA Cup in 2005, following a penalty shootout victory over Manchester United, but Arsenal are pushing to finally add to their honours roll this season, sitting top of the Premier League after three straight victories, giving them a total of 45 points after 20 matches.

The leaders' latest triumph came in a 2-0 win over Cardiff City on New Year's Day, courtesy of late goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Theo Walcott, and the England international believes that a never-say-die attitude can help his side end their trophy drought.

"If you want to win titles then you have got to go to the end and the thing about this team at the moment is that we never give up," he told reporters. "Every game that we win, the belief gets stronger and stronger."

Tottenham are also in good form heading into the clash, with new boss Tim Sherwood overseeing three wins and a draw in four Premier League matches at the helm.

A 2-1 victory at Manchester United on Wednesday was particularly impressive and leaves Spurs just two points adrift of the Champions League places.

Forward Emmanuel Adebayor has played a key role in Tottenham's resurgence under Sherwood, including scoring the opener against United, but faces a battle to be fit to face his former side after being taken off on a stretcher against the reigning champions.

The two sides last met in the competition at Old Trafford in April 2001, with Arsenal winning 2-1 to reach the final. The Gunners also triumphed over Tottenham at the last-four stage in 1993 before going on to complete an FA and League Cup double.

Blackburn Rovers-Manchester City Preview: Pellegrini's men begin FA Cup run at Ewood Park

Last season's beaten finalists currently sit in second place in the Premier League table and have won all but one of their last last 12 matches in all competitions

Manchester City begin their FA Cup campaign against Blackburn Rovers having lost in the final to Wigan Athletic last season.

City were denied their sixth success in the competition by Ben Watson's late strike in the match at Wembley in May but they have only lost one of their last 11 home FA Cup matches.

Manuel Pellegrini's side are the leading scorers in the top four divisions of English football this season with 57 goals in 20 league matches, although the Chilean may opt to rest some of his players for the trip to Ewood Park.

Blackburn moved into the top half of the Championship with their victory over Leeds United on Wednesday, their second away triumph on the spin.

Manager Gary Bowyer has brought stability to the club following a turbulent campaign last season, and that has been rewarded with only three defeats at home.

City's 3-2 win at Swansea on Wednesday was their fourth away victory of the Premier League season and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to 12 matches, but Rovers have only lost three of their 12 games at home.

The visitors will provide a real test to that record, with Pellegrini's side unbeaten in their last nine meetings with Blackburn.

Jordan Rhodes will certainly give City's defence something to think about; the Scotland international has scored 16 goals in the league this season and netted in the New Year's Day triumph at Elland Road.

The sides have met six times in the FA Cup, but have only played once in the competition since 1969. Blackburn won that game 2-0 in 2007 thanks to goals from Aaron Mokoena and Matt Derbyshire.

David Silva returns from suspension for City, but Martin Demichelis (hamstring), Sergio Aguero (calf), Stevan Jovetic (illness) and Micah Richards (hamstring) are all still struggling to be fit.

Blackburn have no injury concerns and will have Jason Lowe available after his one-match ban.

The English FA Cup has really lost its lustre and prestige over the years. Nowadays you will see PL teams put out a second string eleven or B team when they enter in the 3rd round. For them, the EPL title is the priority which brings in serious Champions League revenue ,TV rights money, prestige and recognition. If you ask any of the EPL managers honestly, most would probably not care too much about this competition and would focus on surviving or winning the Premiership. Just ask poor Wigan, last year's winners but playing in the Championship this season.

The only thing keeping this competition alive is the potential for giant killing acts of the smaller non league and lower division clubs who could cause an upset, speaking of which, I hope QPR can turn one over on Everton today.:D

Come on U Rssss!

FA Cup important, says Moyes

4 January 2014

408827header.jpg

Manchester United manager David Moyes insisted the FA Cup is still an important trophy as he prepares his side to face Swansea on Sunday.

United have won 11 FA Cups but last lifted the trophy in 2004 when they overcame Championship side Millwall 3-0.

Moyes said he is keen to end the drought starting with their Premier League opponents in the third round.

"To have not won the FA Cup for 10 years is something which is a bit of a surprise but it's something which we'll try and do," Moyes said.

"We're trying to win all the competitions we enter which we're sure most people are trying to do but as far as I'm concerned we'll do everything we possibly can.

"The cup is important to me, it always has been but I'm sure it's important to every club."

The Scot admitted however it has been a difficult period for the squad in terms of injuries, and that Ashley Young had hurt his shoulder in the previous match against Tottenham.

"The challenge which (Hugo Lloris) had on Young is going to keep Young out now for a time, so it's something we're going to have to look at," Moyes said

"We've got some other injuries as well that we'll just need to look at and see how they are over the next few days."

Paul Lambert already declared in his press conference that it is not the priority for him. That's why there is a chance his team will be defeated by Sheffield United a league one club. ;)

But don't think QPR can turn over Everton, becos even though Everton are not the defending champions, their new-and-improved manager is. :D

Laurent Blanc's men will get an extended winter break after their Coupe de France clash with Brest was called off due to a heavily waterlogged pitch

Paris Saint-Germain's Coupe de France tie at Stade Brestois on Sunday has been called off due to relentless stormy weather in Brittany.

Laurent Blanc's men had been scheduled to take on the Ligue 2 outfit at Stade Francis-Le Ble in the round of 64 this weekend.

However, the clash will now need to be rearranged after officials opted to call the game off due to concerns over the state of the Brest pitch, with more heavy rain expected over the next 24 hours.

A statement on PSG's official website read: "Following bad weather in Finistere [West Brittany] in recent days, the pitch at the Stade Francis-Le Ble is unplayable.

"The match against Brest, originally scheduled for Sunday at 14:15CET, has been postponed.

"Because of this postponement, coach Laurent Blanc has decided to allow his players to rest on Sunday. The resumption of training is scheduled for Monday.

"The date of the rearranged match will be announced at a later date."

Ligue 1 leaders PSG will resume their league campaign at Ajaccio on January 11.

Everton 4 - QPR 0. I guess it was too much to expect a miracle. :(

Did you put any money on Sheffield United? :D

Roberto Martinez put out a strong team, resting only his first choice centre backs who have played almost every game this season and had Lukaku on the bench just in case. He wants to defend his title. ;)

Put a little on Sheffield Utd so won a little, hehehehehe............. :o

Tonite's matches are interesting too, if West Ham lose, big Sam may be in big trouble. But even if mousey Moysey loses, he will be safe. :D

There were rumours that Harry had his eye on the West Ham job should Big Sam get the sack. Fortunately, he came out and dismissed them.
Makes perfect sense. I think he'd rather aim for promotion with us than fight for survival with WH. Why get relegated twice in 2 successive seasons? :)
