Roo only play for Fergie! Capello takes swipe at England flop Wayne

By MATT LAWTON PUBLISHED: 21:59 GMT, 26 June 2012 | UPDATED: 21:59 GMT, 26 June 2012

Fabio Capello has delivered a withering assessment of Wayne Rooney’s England career, claiming 'he only plays well in Manchester'.

Last week the former England manager publicly clashed with his one-time star player, responding angrily to Rooney’s claim that life is better under Roy Hodgson because he can at least speak English. Capello said Rooney did not understand English.

Slippery slope: Wayne Rooney once again failed to perform to his usual level while on international duty, and has been criticised by Fabio Capello

Watching on: Fabio Capello took in plenty of Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine

Rooney was disappointing for Capello at the last World Cup in South Africa and the Italian watched the Manchester United striker under-perform again in his two matches at Euro 2012.

Talking to the Italian news agency ANSA, Capello said: ‘After seeing the latest game, I think Rooney only understands Scottish. That’s because he only plays well in Manchester, where Sir Alex Ferguson speaks Scottish.'

Hodgson acknowledged on Monday that Rooney was poor in the two games he played for England in this tournament, against Ukraine and Italy.

The fact that the United striker so impresses for his club but then disappoints for his country is a problem the England manager needs to address. Rooney has not enjoyed a good tournament since his first, in Portugal in 2004.

Capello was clearly offended when Rooney suggested the Italian’s lack of English was a problem for the players. Rooney said: ‘I think it helps everyone being English. There are no words lost in translation and we understand what the manager wants from us.’

You what? Rooney has recently claimed that instructions are much easier to understand under the new management team and Roy Hodgson

Capello failed to master the language despite four years of regular lessons.

But in an interview with Italian radio last week he said: ‘Look, when I spoke they did understand me.

‘But every now and then, when I tried to explain tactics, things didn’t work out. You know what? Maybe it’s because Rooney doesn’t speak English. He doesn’t understand English.’

Later, he will claim that he was misquoted, and that he is not sorry for anything, ala team-mate Tevez.

Btw, what's the odds for the match being suspended?

Cristiano Ronaldo to score and Portugal to win in 90 mins6/1

<tbody>
</tbody>
The Real Madrid frontman is joint topscorer in the competition with three goals and is Portugal's main threat going forward. Ronaldo's price for scoring in a win for his side has been enhanced by William Hill from 9/2 to 6/1 ahead of this match.

Xabi Alonso to score and Spain to win in 90 mins
9/1

<tbody>
</tbody>
Alonso filled the void when Spain started without a recognised striker against France as he scored both goals, and the Real Madrid man's wincast price has been enhanced to 9/1 to score anytime in a Spanish win on Wednesday.

Portugal to win 4-0
150/1

<tbody>
</tbody>
The last time these two Iberian rivals met each other, Portugal ran out 4-0 winners in a friendly in November 2010. A repeat of that scoreline on Wednesday is priced at 150/1 with William Hill.

Spain to have over 65% possession
5/2

<tbody>

The last time these two teams met, Ukraine triumphed 1-0 in a World Cup qualifying match. A repeat of that scoreline in Tuesday's game pays 10/1 with William Hill.

Ronaldo to win player of the tournament
4/1

<tbody>
</tbody>
Despite a poor start to the tournament, Ronaldo hit unstoppable form against Netherlands and Czech Republic and now leads the Player of the Tournament market at 4/1, a price that will surely drop even further if Portugal get through to the final.

Match to be suspended 200/1

PK Ronaldo miss and Spain go thru.

With the Heavens changing its mind to let England win this tournament. Portugal is now destined to win Euro 2012. So be ready for a 2-O win by Portugal over Spain tonite. Much as we hate to see the arrogance on Ronaldo's face, it will be him who will hit the 2 goals past Iker Casillas tonite. Though I think even with the decree from the Heavens, Portugal will still win as it has been a much better team than Spain so far. Portugal will be too fast for Spain.
