Met him recently. Driving an Audi. That was before DO's resignation.

Was talking with a friend last night about DO, BB as well as coming BE. He told me not to rule out ROM. That got me confused. What does Registry of Marriages got to do with topics we were discussing? I was later told ROM stands for RETURN OF MURALI. Any chance of that from your assessment?

If PT goes for BB, it is likely Murali may. Indian vs Indian!

PAP candidate with grassroot background

Look no further than

Lionel De Souza

Lionel is an expert when it comes to corruption and womanising. DO can't smell his backside. But, to be fair to Lionel, he appears a changed man. He 'amen" here and there nowadays. Scary. His 3 sons from 2nd marriage all doing very well unlike the 3 sons from first marriage. Even God takes care of this dog.

Bro, I am not confident but they might agree to stick to the internal member quota since they have a wide margin to play with. He also marshalled BB for many years and that includes the bodies like the clans. Palmer broke the minority standing in an MNC comfortably so this would be the second attempt. Mural even before 2015 has done a lot of pro bono work for town councils when a resident get injured etc so he is well regarded by the working members of the PAP. Certainly a safe pair of hands.

But not too popular in Rajah & Tann recently, according to one of his colleagues.

Agree on the humble comeback in 2015 and I understand the PT helped him with this and not the usual sycophants from the ex Wp days. I don't think it is winnable. Chee does not have the grassroots nuance that the likes Low or Png has. If the people of Bukit Timah / Holland don't get it , Bukit Batok will not. That part of the World was worked heavily by the PAP when they had issues with Barisan and the communists so the ground work has always been very tight since the 60s. So it is not just the Chee. The odds are heavily staked against the opposition. Why do you think the PAP Branch secretary until 2012 was an Indian whose father was a rehabilitated Barisan detainee.

Dr Chee should rally the support of Dr Tan Cheng Bock for his campaign at Bukit Batok. It will give him a edge over the PAP.

TCB is a GP. Some 'sickness' or 'disease' requires specialists to treat. In the case of CSJ, only God can help him win in BB.

From the voters POV? Yes.
I am not aware of the perception of BB residents on SDP. One thing that I thought Dr Chee did well in the last GE was showing the family side of him to the public. This contrasts with the tainted image of PAP resigned MP. Voters ought to trust a man who is loyal to Wife and family.

Playing up on national issues is not the right tactic for SDP in this by election. Showing to the residents that you are a family man who is earnest in helping them and not mess with other women lives is critical after all that is why we have the by election.

This is going to be interesting and probably will be used as a recovery and testbed by the PAP after the Palmer debacle where they lost the SMC to WP despite having a well credentialed candidate academic and career wise and said to be cabinet material by non other than the PM prior to the polls. In many ways it turned out to be a simple battle between humble, young and hard working party worker vs and arrogant conceited arsehole of a doctor (pun intended). Frankly I don't think the voters punished the PAP for Palmer's affair but more like they could not stomach anal of a surgeon.

I have since found out that David Ong was specifically brought into Bukit Batok in 2011 at the request of the Ong Clan whose ancestral temple is located by BB street 23. I also found out that the clan is influential and both the Ex-President Ong Teng Cheong and Ong Ke Yung are closely associated with it There is a lot of history and there is also association to Bukit Brown from what I am told. Any Ongs can throw more light on this. Reminds me of the Mandan Teochew Catholics whose reach is quite immense.

Also interesting is that previous PAP Branch secretary of BB is Muralidharan Pillai who was transferred to Paya Lebar which is under Aljunied GRC help make the recovery of the GRC in 2015. I understood that his ground work is excellent ( not a good orator though). If he was Chinese, he would have been their ready candidate for BB having served his time in Aljunied and did his stint as a candidate and a ready base in Bukit Batok. Not sure if the Clan has any say after the Ong affair. Interestingly Ong's and Murali Fathers are from same Barisan detainee cohort.

Will offer opposition views in following posts.

Thank you Dr. Scrobal. Your thesis is better than CSJ's.
