Unfortunately, the less sophisticated ones and those with an inch on their shoulders are VIvienne's target with his diabolical tactics. What will be good is for Mr Tan and Dr Ang to come towards Vincent's defense. VIvienne is playing with fire and he has been burnt but will it all be worth it? Vincent has never denied his homosexuality. And SDP, along with several PAP MPs and Siew Kum Hoong, supported the repeal of 377A.

But why address it if Vivian has already categorically stated that sexual orientation is not an issue? (See the posted PAP statement above)

The PAP statement only raised 2 issues: Is Vincent pursuing a hidden gay agenda? What is SDP's stand?

I think the SDP did the right thing by going straight to the point and addressing these two issues, in addition to throwing its weight behind the candidates.

If the statement had wanted Vincent to state his stand specifically on 377A and age of consent, then yes, he should clarify. Otherwise stick to the point.

Agenda is a very loaded term from the Christian Right. I thought Vivan because he attends Wesley Methodist as his dad would be more immune to this sort of bible thumping brimstone rhetoric but I stand corrected.

Agenda means a view point that any advocay of gay rights will eventually lead to lowering of the age of consent, gay marriages and the end of the world. It is a loaded word and a code word in xtian terms and please remember the no of churches both old and new and the demographics of holland bukit panjang.

A clear cut answer will defuse the PAP's attack. Innuendo is abt slimming and raising doubts so as to erode the other guys vote. The attack is of such a personal nature that it has to be responded with a direct response and not another avoid the question with another half answer non answer answer.

No harm in stating openly the three points I suggested.

But as a voter, if the chief comes out and says categorically, "We will not pursue the gay cause", I think that will be good enough for me.

But yes, some of the conservative Christian votes may be lost. But then many of these are PAP supporters in the first place, and in the second, they will never ever vote a gay man into Parliament no matter what.
