That is clearly the case but they can only be effective if they can actually sue someone. Now that they have used a sledgehammer, we could have a whole bunch of such sites coming up. And the PR has driven many more Singaporeans to TR's site.

Precisely. TH is yanking the chain not because they want to beat the dog. The dog's already been beaten flat. They're going after the guys who placed that dog there to begin with or who are still feeding the dog.

You are completely off the mark on so many counts. Note the following;

1) TH besides sending 2 letters have not done anything else
2) TR is repeatedly making the same point that Ong is no longer part of them over many articles and many days
3) TR claims to have sold the domain name
4) Ong is now consulting lawyers after the 2nd letter

Ever wonder why TR is going to all that trouble if they can't be touched. Cass is right. Winning the case is not the desire in many instances, it is just a conclusion. The pain is the matter hanging over one's head, replying, doing stat dec, going to court to throw out the writ, spending money and time etc.

Sue him under what grounds? For owning a business overseas? A website that is not subject to Singapore laws.

Now if they can prove that he wrote the articles he can kena sued for libel etc etc etc. You see, Joe did nothing wrong by owning a website. That is why Singapore wants all these foreign newspapers distributed in Singapore to have a local presence - so that they can be sued. nUnfortunately, distribution has gone electronic.

There is no way that he is responsible for the contributors to TR. Just like ST is not responsible on content in its forum. Or SamLeong is not responsible for the content here.

OK they might be trying to squeeze him for who are the contributors. But it depends on his mettle. If he does not budge, there is really nothing that they can do.

I think if TH is not careful they might start looking silly.

You watch too much TV. If TH takes Joe Ong to court, guaranteed he'll be the one crying for mercy because in reality, TH can have Davi etc on one side and Joe will probably have only M Ravi. Judging from the way Ravi conducts his cases, the number of motions that Ravi will lose (and cause Joe to pay costs) alone may drive Joe to bankruptcy.

Oh, and when Joe refuses to produce documents he is ordered to produce, TH might get a walkover judgement!

If what they claim that the rest of the TR members are in other countries then they have nothing to be afriad of but for Joe Ong, he is here and out in the open.
