Just now, I was taking a taxi and talking to this taxi driver, he was obviously not happy with ERP, he says, Taxi as a public transport shouldn't be obligated to pay ERP charges.

He continue if Taxi has to pay, then MRT commuters going into CBD should pays too, fair to all public transport. I just smile and listen.

Does the use of the rapid transit system contribute to road congestion? Why are Sinkies so dumb? :(

anyway, most gantries are already without jam, but the tax remain HIGH

Then blame it on the PAPpies rather than perpetuating the red herring of taxing all public transport when the ERP was never a tax on public transport per se but a means of controlling road congestion. He might as well suggest a tax on oxygen since all users of public transport have been found to inhale oxygen. If we have ERP for those who breathe while driving past gantries, it's only fair that we tax all oxygen-breathers equally. The human brain is highly susceptible to identifying patterns and commonalities in randomness. :(

but do you know taxis indirectly reduce traffic jams?

I said nothing about taxis. I'm anti-ERP myself. I only corrected the illogic of taxing all public transport with a road congestion tax. Should we install ERP gantries at Changi Airport terminals too?

sure why not,

add ERP at pedestrian walkways to channel human traffic towards GLC malls, instead of private shops too.

Different name, different purpose too. The name and purpose matter when it comes to politics. It's really not as simple as "same must pay $".

the name and purpose ONLY matters to politicians. ordinary citizens don't give a crap what they call it, a tax is a tax as long as the citizens are out of pocket for a couple more $ as a result of government policy.

sure they can boast that we have one of the lowest direct tax rates in the world, but they'll kill you with indirect taxes.

So it doesn't matter to you if the PAPpies impose another tax on the people called "tax for fun" which has no expressed purpose other than to increase tax revenues?
