SINGAPORE - A businessman who recruited more than a dozen escorts for his online vice ring - including an underage girl whose 51 clients made headlines last year - pleaded guilty to 20 charges on Thursday.

Tang Boon Thiew, 39, who ran a company dealing with digital- media advertising, made about $185,000 in two years through 17 women. He will be sentenced next Friday.

The prosecution is seeking a jail term of at least 60 months and a substantial fine, but his lawyer said 30 months would do.

The 20 charges are for living off the earnings of prostitution, procuring women for prostitution, and abetting clients to obtain the commercial sexual services of a minor.

Eighty-two other charges will be taken into consideration.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Agnes Chan said Tang, who has a degree in business from the University of Hull in Britain, decided to set up an online escort agency between 2009 and 2010.

He posted job vacancies on Facebook, other Internet forums and The New Paper under the pretext of looking for women interested in modelling assignments or escort services. He promised them a good income.

Once they agreed to work for him, he would photograph them in various poses and attire.

He also told them that they could earn more by providing sexual services. If they agreed, he gave each a working monicker on the Internet.

Of the 19 escorts he procured between 2009 and 2011, 17 provided sexual services to customers he secured. Tang's records showed he got nearly 700 bookings for these 17 escorts.

In all, the women earned about $371,450. His share was half that.
