Tan Jee Say & NSP don't rule out contesting Hougang

Former presidential candidate Tan Jee Say, who also ran under the Singapore Democratic Party banner at the last General Election, said he does not rule out the possibility of contesting in Hougang as an independent candidate.

He said the first priority is to ensure Hougang remains in the hands of the opposition, and for that to happen, the opposition should work together to pick a candidate they can all agree on.

Secretary-General of the National Solidarity Party Hazel Poa said the party does not rule out the possibility of contesting in the by-election but its central executive council has to meet before making a decision.

They wouldn't dare step into that Teochew stronghold, might even lose their deposits if they foolhardy enough.

Come to think of it, good that they have a go so we can see how the parties fare against each other in terms of the losers. WP would win, but it might be PAP gets more votes than NSP and other contenders. Rationale being that people who like WP are centrist and very similar to those who like PAP of the 60s-70s.

The first party and the only one as at the time of this post to declare that they are not contesting in Hougang is SDP. This is where we all must respect SDP for being gentlemen notwithstanding that in GE2006 YSL ran them down by openly declaring that he cannot bring himself to vote for them in the constituency where he reside and since there is no other party he voted for the PAP. SDP has shown that they do not enjoy eyeing other's territory and for that we must give credit to them for if they do then they are no better that one that has develop a taste for married women. My call to TJS and NSP is to stay clear from the fight at Hougang. Leave it to WP to fight it out with the ruling party on a one to one basis.

TJS comes across as a spoiler. His lack of political acumen is evident.

I totally agree on this.
I hope the Presidential Election does not give him the hubris that he is a political star.
My opinion is that he should stay away from politics.

Please do not insult the 25% of the voters or around half million people who had voted TJS in the PE last year.

Are you implying these people do not know what they are doing , suka suka and anyhow vote?

The respond came from TJS and Hazel is non surprise to me. Most Singapore civil servants or even scholars do not know the meaning "strategy", and lack the idea employing it. They have been nurtured by the state to be power-hungry thinking they can control the world and everyone should listen to them because they are always right. :oIo: If all opposition parties are make up of private sector candidates, I can assure you that they will give their utmost to unite and show brotherhood to each other. I can't say the same to civil serpents. At least I see the brotherhood coming from SDP and there is still hope that we have some sensible opposition party like SDP.

I voted for TJS during PE, but this time, I hope he stays away - let it be a 2 party fight WP vs. PAP. Otherwise same result will happen as in PE : PAP win !! SDP if field Nicole Seah will make a strong contender - she is Teochew lang..............sigh! If only Opposition can be united.
