"My dear Prime Minister..." by Francis Seow.

This irritated the Old Man no end.

Yeah Man !

" My dear Prime Minister .... " Francis Seow

Again & Again, the crowd roared. I was at the field along Ubi Ave during GE 1988 Eunos GRC Rally.

In his sing-song la-di-da drawl, Francis Seow quoted poetry !

Also, on live TV as Law Society President taking part in Select Committee Hearing for I think 'Printing Presses Act' debate.

In coat & tie, mocking LKY.

Classic !

"In Singapore we have a situation where the government leaders said they have integrity that has to be sustained by the highest pay in the world but yet they demand from political opponents and detainees an integrity that has to be sustained by the longest imprisonment in the world. These two types of integrity – to compare them is to compare heaven and earth. Why should anybody has to sacrifice so much just to sustain his integrity and his beliefs? And the government have to reward themselves with so much high pay. This is the immorality of the political situation in Singapore today.”

- Dr Lim Hock Siew

" I read reports of all the bright students going into engineering, the sciences, medicine, economics, and so on. The not-so-bright go to political science and sociology. When they cannot get a good job, they go on to journalism." - Lee Kuan Yew during a Fullerton Square election rally August 9 1972.

So there you are, we have -- the Chua sisters, Sumiko Tan, ...etc. But he didn't include law students.

"I don't want a liberal in my Cabinet." --Lee Kuan Yew to Dr Wong Lin Ken's face after the Nanyang Siang Pau affair.

Dr Wong was once the Minister for Home Affairs and Professor in History Dept University of Singapore. He later committed suicide.

"Newspaper editors do not owe you a living. They do not owe your children jobs. But my colleagues and I do." - Lee Kuan Yew.

So, my dear Singaporeans, you should ask our dear MM,

"where is my job?"

Were you at Eunos counting centre when the Police had to baton charge a number of times. It was never reported in the press. They ran short of uniform officers that they had to rope in plainclothes officers.

Yeah Man !

Pls donch remind me - I was one of those kenna hoot by mata baton, nabei......

Kidding, seriously, I am just a simple singaporean, attend rally good enough, never crowd around counting centre to witness live result, watch on TV at home mah !

Anyway, you brought to mind the silly rule about GCT & LHL being inside the counting centre as opposed to loitering outside, the most ridiculous legal argument - to be inside, first you must have been outside : CJ think they can teleport themselves into the room ! Seow !

Now thinking of Francis Seow, I am reminded his son, Ashleigh Seow (white face boy) was ever a oppo candidate.

Anyone know whether like father like son, he seek asylum in US oredy  ?

Pardon me that I have resided overseas for close to 30 years, and unaware of the police had to baton charge ...
Why do the police have to do that at a counting centre?

To Me, the Greatest Injustice & Most Twisted Legal Argument to bankrupt a liberal diehard warrior, JBJ.

At the Cheng San rally at GE'97 9:59pm :-

" AND NOW .... I HAVE IN MY HAND .... A POLICE REPORT MADE BY TANG LIANG HONG ... ' - JB JEYARATNAM

Like that also convicted for defamation & being made bankrupt ?!

Sadly, that is fact in the Spore Court.
Any one question that, contempt of court - to be clearly spelled out & punishment prescribed soon.

Re: Police Had to Baton Charge

I was not there but told what happenned. As you know Eunos was hot seat and when the polls closed everyone headed to the counting which handles a number of consitutencies.

The crowd mostly made up of young and middle aged, Chinese, Malay and Indians began chanting and started pushing the barriers. They began abusing the PAP. Words spread around and more people turned up. Eventually barriers began to move and Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagjit Singh gave orders to baton charge. They did that a few times. Due to shortage, they had call in plainclothes CNB, ISD chaps to push the crowd back.

Next day, nothing mentioned from the Toa Payoh Brothel ( Sorry, at that time brothel was at Kim Seng Road).

A chap told me that it was first time he saw solid unity amongst Singaporeans of all races since the Kallang Roar when we abused the shit out of the Malaysians. He said they stood shoulder to shoulder asking Police to charge.

I salute the unity amongst Singaporeans regardless of race and religion. If the Police had continue to charge, I speculate that the crowd would be brave, united and strong to trampled several of those men in blue (plain clothes or otherwise).

If something similar happens in Toronto, photo(s) or video footage and the news would make it to the 2200 and 2300 news, and the printed local and national media.

I remember the Kallang roar when I was a teenager.

Thank you for the information.

To digress...still trying to understand --as you did -- the legality and how that statement constituted a defamatory remark..

Is making a police report against someone a defamatory action? Does an accuser become liable for suit from the accused? After all, no one is guilty until proven. One would think that only if the allegations were proven without basis in court, and the accused is acquitted, then only then he can sue.

The other issue is, Does saying that A has filed a police report on B mean the speaker is implying B is guilty?

Scro, elephanto, anyother -- comments??

Bro, don't waste your brain juice.

Trust your common sense.

But suspend them when it involves LKY (& all his MIW & Spore Court).

Remember Ah Chiam's wise saying: -

IF THE PRIME MINISTER SAY SO, THEN IT MUST BE SO !

This example will help paint the picture. When Business Times journalists and the editor was arrested over the Official Secrets Act, Lim Kim San, SPH chairman hired Shanmugam to brief the staff on press coverage and getting into trouble with the OSA.

Shanmugam pointed to a table in the room and said that the Laws are so wide that if someone reported that the table had 4 legs, they can be prosecuted.

The point is that this government can interpret things to their advantage and below is one such case.

Jesus Christ!

That serendipitous day when the Oppos capture power, I'd like to see the guns turn on themselves. Dig out every damned shit and prosecute or use ISA. Even those who are interred with their bones, we'll dig out --because the evil that men do, lives after them. Get a Prez pardon for all those unfairly detained without trial and wronged.
