Unemployment now stands at 663,000 in Taiwan
Unemployment in Taiwan has reached record levels for the third month running, according to the latest unemployment figures.
The figures for July revealed that the island now has 663,000 unemployed - and 421,000 are of them are men. The total workforce is just over 10 million.
This brought the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate to 6.01%.
The number of graduates entering the job market over the summer is said to be a factor.
Another blow to the economy is the impact of Typhoon Morakot which hit Taiwan this month.
It is estimated to have caused more than $2bn (£1.2bn) of damage to farms and property, although the Cabinet has approved a $3bn rehabilitation fund to be spent over the next three years.
