STI went below 1000 points in the economic crisis in the late 1980s. It took the economy a few years to bounce back then. Then came the invasion of Kuwait by Iraq in 1992, another downturn.

For this current situation, factored in inflation rates, I don't think it will drop to that sort of levels. If bottom to be seen, it will be around 1200 - 1300 points.

My 2 cent worth.

For those cash rich people, it will be a simple strategy. Dump money into dirt cheap stocks of stable companies and forget about it for 5 years. (Really forget about touching it.)

I believe it will yield around a few times more when the economy recovers then.

By then, these rich folks got money for new Lambo, Ferarris, etc...

Hai!:(

Please tell us which are the high dividend blue chip stocks you will buy?

I will monitor and give you GUARANTEE that your Cheap Buys will turn into "CB" within 12 months.

How can anyone buy when NOBODY and I mean NOBODY knows the REAL SHIT in today's crisis. Everyday, there is a NEW BIG COMPANY or COMPANIES in trouble.

Hi Royston!

I am adament that STI WILL fall below 1000.

It's not just a forcast and plucked from the skies. Hope you will accept my below 1000 points and save you some money.

Trying to help people from jumping HDB and MRTs.

Right, only time can tell who is right and wrong!

Really depressing seeing the US market go down & down & down.....

Don't care much for the local market because what matters is the US market.

Some so called experts have recommended going into the market using a dollar cost averaging strategy at these prices. Not like that idiot Madam Ho who went in with both feet

in my humble opinion, sti should be able to hold between 1100-1300 level. it's shopping time sooner than later (possibly around mid to end 2009).
by next year end, properties should be next in line.
meanwhile, within couple of months, precious metals should be gems for the picking.

this maybe a good time for those with super extra-cash on-hand.
a lot of bargain blue chips to pick-up and wait for them to rebound.
sure win a lot.

We're already in a depression. Inevitably we'll have to go through a severe deflation and then we might see a recovery in 2012.

Obama's stimulus package is not going to help turn the US economy around. Good chance for the STI to fall below 1000 pts & Dow
Jones to 4000.

The next big company to fall will be LVS. Operating costs for LVS's 4 mega casinos in Vegas and Macao amounts to about US$18m
per day, and they simply are not getting the turnover to generate for them the profits.

For those who want to invest, now is the time to start averaging and picking up companies which we think are viable and last the next 10 years.

Its hard to call a bottom, it could be 800, 1200, or even as high as 1400, cause stock markets turn and trade higher well before the economy tells you.

When there is a discount at the local malls, everybody rush to buy. When there is a 60-80% discount in the stock markets, everybody warn others against buying.

Without doubt there are solid companies that are blue chip. The current trend is downwards and its driven by global sentiments that has nothing to do with fundamentals for some of these. Obviously they are cheap and do not reflect the fundamentals. Obviously it going to rebound.

Howevere only an absolute idiot will buy now as it a trend. This is not a volatile market, there is a clear trend. Furthermore we are going to see companies collapsing and this will see further down downward pressure.

Wait till it stops trending downwards.

Just keep the cash in the milo tin now.

Remember some smart ass sprouting nonsense about STI breaking the 4000 points mark in late 2007?

I bet he must be very deep in some lightless hole now...

Or he has conned people enough money to live like a king when he cashed out of those people rushing in to buy at that point...

LOL!

We are always surrounded by many news and words, please take them with a pinch of salt...
