i simply LOVE old photos of singapore .... see no national stadium in the background then ....... the Merdeka commemorative slab looks so smart against the blue sky ..... nostalgic !

Thanks bro Postnew, I really like that picture, the lion looks so much more powerful, so energetic, so much prouder then the current Merlion, all curled up like a heh bi (shrimp).

Were they built by the Lim yew Hock Government? to commerorate Singapore self-government?

I remember seeing the municpal iron cast logo...the coconut tree with the tiger at the foot...

Were they removed, for they embarass 'you know who'...these are the heritage that the younger ones do not know about...they think SINGAPORE was PAP made!!...;)

There were two more in the Atrium of Plaza Singapura, if one could remember PS used to look like.

the last saw of that statue, it was outside Far East Shopping Centre opposite the Thai Embassy along Orchard Road.

Anyway, Have not been down Chulia Street( it was called 'san chai tank') the Moore's sculpture outside OCBC HQ...is still there right?

The wavy, stainless steel sculpture called wave, just opposite Marina Square at the end of Queen's Elizabeth Walk!, or Esplanade.

Wonder, why we put up statues & sculptures then later discard them...

apparently i am not the only one impressed by postnew's resourceful retrieval of online pix, unfortunately, i can only upped the same person once per day....

bro halsey02, the Old Plaza Singapura bloody nostalgic, the basement yaohan bakery predates all the breadtalk these days, the top floor is among the earliest if not the earliest air-con foodcourt Do-Re-Mi right ?

Supreme Records was at 2nd or 3rd floor, my favourite Ponderosa, with its sumptious salad bar.....

beats what fuck Ion Orchard or Orchard Central these days ....

That sculpture outside Fare East, moved from Plaza Spura or others from the same sculptor ......

The other Cultural Medalion winner - sure got affairs but discreet lah, all cultured types sure very eros & teeko one ...:o
